I went to Tesco last night to pick up FIFA 09 and for some stupid reason I also bought that new UFC game despite being only marginally impressed by the demo. The full game is gash. I just find it really bloody boring. It's essentially the same as the THQ WWE games, but less interesting because you don't wear silly costumes and hit each other with tables and shit.

The control scheme is ridiculously complicated, and having a fight that is any more than just twatting each other until someone falls over takes a ridiculous amount of instruction manual study. It's just BORING. Eurogamer gave it 8/10, I give it 5 or 6 at the max.

Will Tesco let me take it back, or will I have to say it's faulty? I dropped £37 on it and I've now realised there are still a couple of PS3 games that I KNOW are good that I could've bought instead. Motorstorm Pacific Rift being one of them. Will Tesco try to replace the game with another copy of UFC if I say it's faulty?

You should've bought FUEL!

I think the best you could hope for is store credit.

That'd do, seeing as there are other games I want! Gonna try my luck later on anyway.

UFC games have always been really hardcore - even back in the heady days of the original on the Dreamcast. They are, after all, trying to simulate a sport where 90% of fights have maybe two or three punches thrown before one guy throws the other to the ground and they then sit in the missionary position prodding each other in the ribs.

I told them it was faulty and wouldn't install on my PS3, and they would only exchange it for the same game. So I told them I'd searched online and found that other people were having similar problems, and that when I got home with the same (new copy) game, that I'd probably have the same problem. They said that I should then bring that one back and they'd consider a refund. Cue 10 minutes of arguing before I finally walked out of there with a new copy of UFC...

CUNTS! I bought it less than 24 hours ago and they won't let me have a refund. Obviously, I could've copied the game in that time, and I'm lying about it being broken, but still CUNTS. It was two middle aged women being arsey on a hot day for the sake of being arsey and abusing their authority. So, I'll be going back tomorrow with the same story. They even took the seal off the new copy they gave me so I can't claim I hadn't opened it. So, they took back my unsealed copy of the game anyway, presumably they'll send it back and get reimbursed, then they opened a new copy and gave it to me. Why the FUCK couldn't they just give me a refund/store credit? There's no reason other than them being arseholes.

I do realise I was lying about it being faulty, but I should be allowed to return something I'm not happy with within 24 hours, especially when there's a 28 day return policy on the back of the receipt, and they'd happily accept a faulty bag of Wotsits that they can't possible re-sell. What the fuck? I'll be writing to my MP...

Get off your horse, man. They were just following the rules - you're the one trying to scam them.

Oh absolutely I know, but I'm arguing that their policy is ridiculous. I wouldn't have had to scam them if they were more reasonable!

Where's our resident game-seller? What do you do if someone returns a brand-new game, Niherenge?

Maybe now people can understand why I download and fully evaluate PC games before paying for them. Because when you buy a duffer that ^^ happens.

What I would have said is "Look, this game is utter shit and it isn't worth the money. It's not fit for purpose"

Hello!

Quite frankly I'd have told you to fuck off as I'm not a 'Rent video games for free store'. I get people trying to fetch things back like this all the time and I say exactly that. Then offer to buy it back for a fraction of what I sold it because I am an Evil Free Market Economist. (Well usually I offer half)

I don't give a shit that Gamestation and Game (both of whom are afraid of him - OLL Fans) will give you your money back if you don't like it within 10 days. If you want to be able to take it back if you don't like it, buy it from them. You want it cheap? Buy it from me. You takes your money you pays your chance (subs please check). If you had said that lie about hard disk installation to me and I'd googled it to find you're lying you'd have definitely not stood a chance of a refund.

In such situations I will sometimes offer a straight swap for something of similar value. However it does tend to depend somewhat on a few factors:

1) If you seem like a decent intelligent person
2) How much I wanted rid of said game and how likely I think it is I'll get rid of it again
3) If I can fob you off with something much crapper that I know I have overpriced

Reminds me.. (Oh god you did have to get him started didn't you? - Everyone) a kid brought a game back after two weeks not long ago and our conversation went:

Him: "I bought this game from you two weeks ago."
Me: "Thank you!"
Him: "I want to fetch it back."
Me: "Okay. You want to sell it or exchange it?"
Him: "I want my money back."
Me: "Oh is there something wrong with it? If so you really should have brought it back sooner."
Him: "There's nothing wrong with it."
Me: "Well I'm afraid you can't have your money back then."
Him: "But it's too hard."
Me: "I'm sorry but I'm not a free game rental store. I'm here to make money, I don't just let you borrow a game for a while to see if you like it and it's not really my fault if it's too hard"
Him: "I've completed it."
Me: "Well it sounds like it isn't too hard then."
Him: "Can't I have my money back then?"
Me: "No Sorry. I'm not a free game rental shop."
Him: "oh."

:D

In my defence, the UFC demo was pretty good and it got good reviews. The full game is just a bit shit, though. Not really my cup of tea.

I think taking things back "as you don't like them" is a road which is laden with trouble.

The problem is people who have managed to take the piss makes other people think it is a right. A friend bought a new laptop over christmas and 3 weeks later decided that because it had a numberpad on the right (he was used to it being overlaid on the main keyboard) then the thing was misbalanced and he couldn't type with it on his lap. Somehow the shop accepted this as a valid reason to give him a straight cash refund.

I have several fans who really like the game too, though they are all wrestling or UFC fans.

Should've used the old "My Gran bought this for me, only I've already got this game and I've been in hospital" routine. Always worked on the old dears down at WH Smiths way back in the 80's. Happily, they seemed to change staff a lot, else someone might have twigged that I was either the sickest child in Britain with a very generous Gran or up to something.

On the other hand, you're a complete berk for buying the game after not thinking much of the demo. That's the point of demos - try before you buy, not try before you buy, think it sucks, buy anyway and then try and pull a fast one!

The demo was piss-easy, though! I assumed the full game would be harder, and that would make it more fun. Turns out I was wrong - it's harder and not more fun.

Never mind, I'm just gonna stick it on eBay.

In sort of related news, SvR2009 is approximately a hundred times better than 2008.
