Anyone got a DSi? Call yourselves gamers?

I've not even seen one.

I saw a guy with one in Mahon airport.

It has a matt finish rather than shiny finish.

I saw an advert for one in the paper. You can get e-books on it apparently.

I think they are overpriced.

Theres no reason for making them £50 more than the old DS lite really.

As my DS broke ages ago, I'll probably get a DSi at some point to replace it with. Not for £150 though.

:this: I'm in no hurry to get one as I've not touched my DS Lite in ages. There's not actually a lot of hardware I want now except maybe Wii Fit at some point.

Craig bought me one when they came out. It's good fun, but mostly I like the fact that it doesn't have a wi-fi system that's made of poo. Hence, I can actually use it online.

Is the screen noticeably better? What about the buttons?

Screens i would say are not better - if anything I think they are a little less sharp, but barely noticeable. They are minutely bigger. The added brightness, though, makes playing in sunshine like today's MUCH better.

I have not noticed any difference in the buttons at all, and I switch between the DS Lite and DSi all of the time. I will have a proper look at the two consoles side by side after I have rested (I'm not lazy, just got back from doctors and hospital) and properly compare the screens and see if I can notice any difference in the buttons. If the screens are noticeably different, I'll take you a picture if you want.

Also, I love the browser. I can sit in the pub and update increasingly nonsensical twitter messages from it.

Hadn't noticed anything about the PSP Go. Wonder how it'll fare against the DSi. At least the UMD stuff has been dropped.

Dpad more prominent than analogue nodule? Looks tricky to play and hold to me.

Wonder how much these will be, and more importantly, how much the older ones will drop to?

It looks like it will be a bit top-heavy, but I'd like to have a go on one.

Hmmm, don't remember. They do have 1,000 points for ds-ware games, though. I bought Wario for 5o0 points - works like an eyetoy game - 'move your arms like this' but it takes sneaky snapshots of you doing these things and then at the end presents a slideshow of you in funny situations according to the shapes you have 'pulled'.

Twice as much, and the CPU is twice as fast too.

I'm interesting in the PSP Go!. This is the first download-only mainstream console, and that's been working very well for the iPhone.

Shit, yeah. Just realised the UMD drive has gone. I'd forgot that's how they sold the games for them :DD

Nothing major, Rick, just some tests, blood tests and the like, and then being prodded by doctors and nurses. I've got to have an operation on one of my ovaries in a few weeks it seems, but I am cool and okay :)

@Grim... I did a button comparison yesterday - buttons are much more clicky, less 'spongy' and as such they do seem more responsive as they appear to 'pop up' quicker for successive clicks - I'm not sure if it does allow for faster clicks or if it is just a reaction to the different tactile sensation, but ho-hum. I didn't automatically notice any differences before comparing the two, but only as I have never had any issue with the DS Lite buttons, for anyone who did find them disagreeable, though, you should notice quite a big difference.

the difference here in holland/eurolandia is far smaller, 165 euros for the dsi, 145 for the DSlite (although you see some very cheap dslite specials these days)

I think that's more to do with your DS Lites being extremely expensive in comparison to here in the UK. 145 euro is £125.50. £100 is the maximum you'd expect to pay for a DS Lite in the UK, with some sales having them for £65 recently - I think in Morrisons.

165 euros for a DSi is £143 - a difference from our price of about £5, so our DSis are a little more expensive than yours, but your DS Lites are much more expensive if we were to travel to buy ours in euros.

Obviously the Lites seem so expensive in Euro because of the change in the exchange rates, and the figures above are from today's exchange rates.

yup, that's is what i meant.. the lites are now 'too cheap'in the uk , because the price was based on the old excange rate.. the dsi might look very expensive now at your place, but that is just because the price is based on the current one.. in euro's the price didn't rise that much

Just ordered a black DSi to replace the Lite that I, er, knackered with overenthusiastic New Track And Field antics.

The DSi has these two really sharp little nubs on its underside. Once you notice them, you can't un-notice them.

WARNING: appareently the latest (1.4E?) DSi firmware upgrade blocks the DSTTi card, maybe (probably) some of the others. There is a fix for the DSTTi card here which I tried and can confirm it works, but you need a second DS (either a un-upgraded DSi or a DS lite) to make it work. You should be able to upgrade the firmware on the card before upgrading the DSi, but I haven't actually tried this so don't come blaming me if your DSTTi stops working, blah de blah.

Anyhoo, I thought I'd give it a go as I have another DS(lite) if I could no longer use the DSi with the card for the time being, and it works (though the TT card icon is now replaced with a Star Wars icon(?), but other than that there is no change)

Obviouly this only matters if you give a fig about updating the system, but if you do it means you can download the latest offerings from the DSi shop as there's a lovely free little app called 'flipbook'. It's basically a little animation program that lets you make notes, draw frame-by-frame animations, you can add sound and all sorts. you can then upload them to the flipnote server, watch other people's movies, save them to your DS or to a memory card, export them as animated gifs. Ok, this is rubbish, but I was just testing it out:

Image

Oh, and you can upload pics taken with your DSi to Facebook with the upgrade, too, if you like booking your face.
