This is looking absolutely badass! And I never say 'badass'! Check it out!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqECtTE4Opk

They couldn't possibly balls that up, right? I'm not usually into remakes, but this looks like a fun reimagining of the source material (as opposed to a cynical, takes-itself-a-bit-too-seriously cash-in), and I'd love to see more stuff like this on XBLA and WiiWare if this is the general approach being taken.

PS - Listen to Track 4! MR MILDLY AMUSED FACE

That looks aces. I never was any good at the original, though.

Hmm I couldn't find more talk about this (could have been the rush I'm in though).

Never the less just a quick heads up, the game is 400 points this week (for Gold peeps) and is FANTASTIC.

400 points when it is more polished than any 1200 point game. And the challenge rooms on their own are a games worth of content.

Please please get it. It has such love and devotion to the original (which I never played) and is a brilliant game in it's own right. A wonderful mix of game mechanics, difficulty and awesomeness.

After watching this if you don't want the game you are dead inside. The music is Fantastic.

I bought it, and on MyFinger's Xbox too so he got a free copy. Not tried it yet. The demo kicked my ass, but hey, it was less than £3 so worth a punt.

Nah, the menu's a lot more of a pain in the arse to navigate, now. I think if you go to the marketplace, select 'Arcade' and then move along to 'Browse', you should see a category called 'All' at the top, which will allow you to peruse every Xblah release in alphabetical order.

I don't even remember creating this thread. I bought the game when it first came out, and can tell you that it's about 190000000000% better than I was anticipating, and is easily the best XBLA offering, by some distance. It should be selling for 400 points at the moment, making it a serious ultrabargain, and, frankly, it'd be worth buying just to listen to Simon Viklund's reimagining of the original soundtrack. It's wonderful.

I didn't get on with the demo, but for 400 points I'd have bought it if I'd got any points in my account.

The game has a steep learning curve because it plays unlike anything else.

But if your anything like me then once it gets its claws into you you'll end up spending more time and getting more enjoyment from it than most full price games.

This is the same one that came out on the PC. Last May.

Still, nice to see the PC getting something first for a change :) Shame that they've royally screwed us on SF4 though.

It shipped on PSN/XBLA/PC simultaneously last August. The interest now is because it's half price this week (about £3), not because it's new.

Just had a quick go of this again. Boy it is good. Love it hard.

That quick go reminded me that there is a LOT of tearing on level 0. But I noticed none in the rest of the game. I rock a SD-CRT mind.

I didn't like the demo either but I generally trust Lave's judgement on this kinda thing so I've downloaded it anyway. Unfortunately, I also downloaded Puzzle Quest so I need to tear myself away from that first.

I got it for free on the PC, enjoyed it, but never got that far into it.

When it went half price, I got it on the 360 too.

I guess I like gaming on a console more than on a PC most of the time these days...

Wha about the new 3D one? Anyone given it a go?

I've rocked through half a dozen areas on Easy difficulty and I'm having a blast. Controls are unavoidably fiddly, you just need to get used to them I think (which is why I am on easy).

It's not a particularly difficult game, JohnCoffey. It's full of tough, optional challenges, but just getting through the main game on 'Normal' mode is a piece of piss until you reach the last few levels. And those should always be difficult.

The controls aren't awkward at all - it's just that you have to get used to some swinging mechanics. This should not be seen as a chore. :p

The controls aren't awkward so much as the 360 controller doesn't seem to respond appropriately. It seems to really struggle with the diagonals which is what put me off buying it the other day. The game was very amusing though.

The diagonals are annoying, I thought it was just my controller. It is a shame really, as the diagonal swinging makes the game far more fun.

I like the demo, it is funny, "Sir, someone is playing the game without paying!" "Relax soldier, it is just the demo!"

He auto diagonals if you don't press a direction. It's a thing I found that makes the game much betterness when doing those chain swings.

Yeah, you don't have to press a diagonal at all.

The controls are perfect (for the game) but the 360 controller does let it down a tad. Maybe the Xbox 1080 will have a decent dpad....

I may have errored getting it on the 360. It would benefit from the PS3's joypad. It works on the PSP over Remote Play too.

And you didn't even get it on your 360, as well. :shakey: :)

I would buy this if I had 400 points, but I don't, so I can't. I would buy points to buy this if I had a working card, but it was cloned, so I don't, so I can't :(

I thought the demo was okay, but not interesting enough for me to get at 'full price'. I'll give it a go purely on Lave's enthusiasm, and hope it wins me over.

I tried to have a quick go on this before bed last night. An hour later...

Ok, it's finally clicked. I think it helped finding out where the challenge rooms were and doing the advanced tutorial. Sticking it on easy has helped too.

Lave, you might want to check out the leaderboards for some of the challenge room times. Room 17 particularly sticks in my mind.

See, it takes a while to get it's hooks in you, but it's fucking fantastic when it does. In my paniced last minute email to chinny I left it off. Gutted. It totally deserves 10th. At least.

My times on the time trials are just whatever I got when I completed the level, I've not played it for speed.

Yet.

There are some of them I just can't do. Not the ones where I can see what to do and mess it up; there are just some where I have no idea how to complete it.

Do the new difficulty tweaks -- particularly the not falling off your arm when you slam into a wall -- work in Challenge mode, I wonder? And if so, does it open new paths?

I'm a bit scared to update my game, because I think it is wonderfully balanced at normal, and I would hate to lose that.

It's a weird future where you can buy something, love it, then have the people who made it fiddle with it after the fact. BAH.

Is there a way to de patch if you don't like the changes?

Clear your cache, but you lose the benefits of being connected to live while you're playing it.

Finally got round to playing this yesterday and it definitely gets better the more you play it. The controls aren't as intuitive as they could be though.

First game I've encountered that has screen tearing though.. ugh. I thought that was only a VGA thing but I guess not.
