Don't think there's a topic already...

Picked this up the other day and although the single player campaign seems pretty generic so far (I understand it gets better), I've been playing the online multiplayer which is fucking excellent.

But what has really left my jaw hanging is killzone.com.

It tracks all of your stats and lets you re-watch previous games using a top-down view map thing. I've attached an image of this in action. It's fucking incredible. Did anyone else know about this? The wealth of stats and things available on the site is amazing. Combined with a genuinely original approach to varied game modes, this is definitely one of the best online console FPSes I've ever played.

Another image of the stats bit of the site, but not really showing anywhere near the whole picture:

The main PS3 thread started out as Killzone 2 thread, but went so far off the rails it got renamed.

I've not played an awful lot of multiplayer, but I really enjoyed what I did play. A lot.

And I love, love, love the single player game. It does eventually click for most people, but not everyone. If it doesn't click, that'll be a shame.

It really really is! I've also just signed into the PSN malarky and it seems they've finally caught up with LIVE and added trophy/friends support to the website, which also means this:

I finally don't feel as though I'm wasting my time playing PS3 games instead of 360 games :D

You're pulling away from me I see! I haven't played on my 360 for two months now. I will again I'm sure, but right now with Everybody's Golf, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 to buy and inFamous as well, the PS3 is getting my attention!

I don't know if my copy of killzone will have arrived by this weekend, so I might only have resistance 2. Oh I better get a headset as well,I'll try and do that tomorrow.

If you can get it (and it is pretty tricky doing so), I highly recommend going for the official Sony headset. It uses some special techy gubbins to produce much higher quality audio than you'd expect from a bluetooth headset when hooked up to the PS3, it has a microphone mute button on it and can display info about remaining battery life and mute status on the screen. Plus, you can use it as a bog-standard bluetooth headset with your mobile phone. Definitely worth the money considering how much 'proper' bluetooth headsets cost and it's a damn sight better than my 'proper' Motorola one that cost almost twice the price.

I didn't realize that headset did special stuff. It's sold out everywhere though, except for the SOCOM bundle for £40.

I've got the SOCOM bundle in my Amazon basket (£37). Apparently it's dogshit, but probably worth the £7. Not sure whether or not to press the buy button. I'll get one if everyone else gets one - then I won't be talking to myself :).

I wish they'd bundled a headset with the PS3 :( That really helped Live to kick off in my opinion.

I have an old Bluetooth headset, so I'll be talking regardless. I'd like to replace it, the arm is broken. Also, the official Sony one is £18 (but out of stock) at Play.

Yeah, I'd heard good things about the headset so actually bought it with SOCOM, hoping that I might be able to trade the game itself in at some point. Hell, I was able to find somewhere to trade my Australian copy of Rock Band 1 in, and the game itself comes in a bog-standard barcoded box, so I guess it shouldn't be a problem.

That said I haven't actually tried to trade it in yet, so I may have to actually give it a go at some point. It is meant to be dogshit though.

I have been told there should be a bluetooth headset in my house so I am going to check that out when I get home. If I am going to be playing on PSN a lot though then I will invest in the official headset. I agree it should come bundled with one, considering how much better Live is compared with PSN they aren't really doing themselves any favours. I would consider buying SOCOM for the headset but Jen would murder me. Then probably bring me back to live and murder me again.

I don't have a bog standard bluetooth headset :( I've had three or four in the past few years, usually bundled with my mobile phone upgrades, but I always just chuck them out because they're for cunts...

Kinda wish I hadn't now.

I've just been doing some googling to see what options there are when looking for a headset. I hadn't even considered the fact that some won't have a mute function, I'm so glad I have been reading this thread!
Looks like the official one has to be the one to go for. I will order it when I get paid.

I just got shipping confirmation for Killzone 2. I think it is coming from Portugal but it is recorded delivery or something because he sent me a tracking code. Guessing it'll be monday or tuesday before I get my hands on it. I'm rather excited!

Most headsets have a mute button though. The benefits of the Sony one are charging cradle and the on-screen display of battery and whatnot. And maybe the alleged "clearer speech" stuff, which might be proprietary to the PS3 but might just be one of the standard Bluetooth profiles. Anyway, with the official one in Play for £18, it's a good choice I feel. I'm going to order that soon in case the price goes up when it comes into stock.

So if I were to order that now, would it just sit there as a pending order until they came back into stock, meaning I get it at the price listed now rather any other price?
Also, if i ordered it now would I be charged now, or when it was dispatched?
Sorry for acting like you are Mr Play Customer Service, feel free to ignore me if you want :p

It really is noticeably clearer and I should probably clarify - all headsets have a 'mute' function, but only the Sony official one (as far as I'm aware) has a 'mute mic' button, as in it only mutes the microphone, but you can still hear people talking to you.

I tend to agree with you jonarob about Bluetooth headsets being for cunts, but this particular cunt has to drive 30 miles each way to and from work and having the occasionally ability to phone people whilst driving is massively helpful at preventing me from nodding off behind the wheel whilst on the M25 heading home! :D

SDG - they might honour the price and they probably won't charge until dispatch. Either of those could be wrong. Not both though, if you think about it (if they charge you £17 now they can't charge you more later).

MOTHERFUDGING HELL. The very last bit of the game is infuriating. I'm in a big room and there are fucking loads of badguys firing rockets at me and my useless AI chum. I've died maybe 25 times trying to do it :(

Truely awful bit this. Especially on the hardest difficulty.

Rico's yells of "Help me ... muthafucka" has become a household phrase after an hour on that section.

Add me as a friend "ianaris" for some pow-pow action! I've finally unlocked the chap who gives the spawn points, and it's taken bloody ages to get that far. I can't wait for the sniper with the cloaking device and/or disguise. Best character since The Spy in Team Fortress!

I'll get you added up once the girlfriend stops watching Come Dine With Me. (I'm watching it too...)

Once I've completed it on hard, I'm planning a run through on easy to mop up some trophies, then I'll try elite :'( THEN, I'll concentrate on the online mode. Unless I get bored and just play online when I complete it the first time.

Finished it a couple of hours ago in one attempt. Obviously I was getting too flustered! Bit of an anti-climax and a sure sequel set up. *sigh*

At least online is ace!

I've just started this and put it on the highest difficulty, as it said that's suitable if you've got plenty of FPS experience. However, it occurs to me that the vast majority of my FPS experience is with a mouse, and am now wondering if I'd enjoy it more on medium...

I think you'd probably enjoy it more on medium! It's a tough game on hard, but it's short. The length comes in the fire fights, which can take ages if you're pinned down. Just make sure you use cover, popping up to get some headshots, and watch out for flanking/grenades in your face.

I'd just do it on medium, though, in hindsight. It was very frustrating at times and apparently you still unlock elite difficulty for completing it on hard.

Cheers, I think I'll go back and do it on medium then. My extensive experience of FPSes has taught me I'm not actually that good at them anyway.

If you're around, then maybe - but those times I go online/check xbox.com there's usually nothing happening. I'd be up for all sorts (GoW2 - although last time I played that Dimmers refused to play as he was bored of the maps, RB2, TF2, UTIII and so on)

Also I would rather like to try out the multiplayer of this (Given the single player did appear to be a bit like CoD4, but good) along with getting some first hand information on how good the ps3s online service is so I can actually definitively comment on one of the areas the 360 is apparently better.
