Even for free I have no desire to listen to it.

I don't hate Coldplay*, but I still have no desire to listen to this.

*I quite like X&Y, and a couple of tracks off their latest album. The rest is whiny shit, though.

They played a free gig outside my office, (and interrupted our team meeting with their soundcheck). I did not attend.

So, Coldplay outside your office and Lucy Porter in your bedroom. I think the former balances out the latter, Karma-wise. Just about.

I don't hate Coldplay. As much as it pains me to admit to agreeing with myp, 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' is ace.

I have a real problem separating music from the people who make it. If Coldplay didn't have Chris Martin then I might just regard their music as sort of inoffensive technically ok but ultimately bland crap that people buy because they don't have any opinion about music whatsoever and don't know what to buy, like when I try to buy a bottle of wine and just pick something "middle priced". However Chris Martin is the lead singer and so I actively hate it.

You really can't like much music, then, as most musicians are cocks.

Do you think so? I don't really, at least I haven't found that to be generally the case when I've learned more about people whose music I like. Some of them might very well be but I'd have to go out of my way to find out, unlike with Chris Martin.

i met some musicians and most are ace. Mikael Akerfeldt, for example, is very funny and and pleasant to talk to. And not one bit pretentious. But that's maybe because he's good...unlike Chris Martin.

I do not dislike coldplay all that much. Rush of Blood is excellent, and most of what else they have done is at least OK.

I thought the new album was pretty good, especially the "MBV-lite" Chinese Sleep Chant (despite the band hatefully deciding it should be a "secret" track, therefore not giving it its own track number). Previous CP stuff kind of washes over me (it mostly rates at 3 in my iTunes collection, which is "won't turn it off, but doesn't get on to my iPods"; the new album has five tracks scoring higher.

Talk was also good, although that's of course a Kraftwerk riff anyway. Given that and Chinese Sleep Chant, perhaps Coldplay should just do a really skewed covers album.

To be a good successful musician you have to have some kind of ego. Without that you don't have enough self-belief to drive yourself to keep going, even when things aren't going your way. Unfortunately many overstep the line from super-self-confidence over to insufferable wanker.

I was never a successful musician because I didn't have that drive or self-belief. I've met and worked with a fair amount who are good and have done well (or will go on to do well), but most of them were extremely hard work (both professionally and personally).

Of course, with the exception of Viva la Vida, that live album is stuffed full of all of "won't turn it off, but doesn't get on to my iPods" tracks. *sigh*

Yeah, but there's having an ego and acting like a bit of tit and then there's coming across like you're the fucking messiah.

As far as messiah types go, I far prefer Chris Martin over Bono or Bob Geldof.

Also, Martin is a funny bloke who is keen on self-parody and plays up the 'messiah' routine for shits and giggles.

Coldplay don't offend me, the way the industry is spawning Coldplay-clones, and assimilating other bands into the Coldplay Collective offends me.

Oh, Kings of Leon... you used to do splendid bluesy rock'n'roll, why are you now Coldplay v3.89563?

I have a friend who knows Ms. Paltrow rather well, and knows Mr. Martin through her. When he's not being Chris Martin of Coldplay, he's apparently a perfectly decent chap.

Really doesn't surprise me.

I am pretty that most of the backlash against Coldplay is simply because they are very successful. There are lots of bands whose music I don't like, doesn't make me have any negative feelings towards them.

Edit: Hell, the Plain White Ts are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and their music is shite.

I think if I ever met Ms Paltrow I would probably want to crawl up and die somewhere. She really is so radiantly pretty that I would feel like some kind of ogre in her presence.

Not to say that I think I'm a fugly, but literally standing next to her I would feel like John Merrick.

I don't have anything against Coldplay. They do some OK songs (yellow being one). Not really my cuppa but hey, it's something for nothing :)

I hated 'Yellow' and never understood why people loved it at the time. I like 'The Scientist' but that's about it.

Yellow is 'nice'. I saw them live @ a concert in Baltimore. They came on right at the end (after the New York Dolls, Garbage, Social Distortion, Foo fighters etc) and yellow was really cool.

After a whole day of blistering heat and banging your head like a loon it made a nice way to wind the evening down :)

Was pretty cool too, they had all of the stage lights filtered yellow and all of the arena spotlights.

Kings of Leon are the Nickelback (or even Korn) of 08/09. Really the way the media shove down our thoats the "genius" of this band is unbelievable. Even me that i don't pay much attention to that. But i have to see them on the cover of every music mag in the stands, and the other day i put on MTV2 and "Best live bands now!"

11th place...Metallica
I've seen so many concerts that i lost count, and yet i have to see any band as good as Metallica live, seriously. Yet, on the 2 first places....The Killers and....Kings of Leon of course. Both with the most souless and cynical rock music i've heard.

Hey, I love singing various Coldplay numbers on my PS3 (SingStar), usually whilst drunk, belting 'em out with great gusto. I particularly like Clocks and Speed of Sound. Am I wrong? :D

Personally, I think Coldplay are pretty good. But then I am a middle aged, 'mid price wine consumer' kinda guy, when it comes to music.
