Pokemon is great. And Pokemon Platinum is the best yet. You should play Pokemon. Why do not play Pokemon? Or do you play Pokemon? If you do, you are good and not BAD like people who do not play.

The spin-off games range from the rubbish to the pretty great, but the core games are excellent RPGs.

TEN RANDOM POKEMON FACTS

1) The Pokemon games are very much in the genre of "traditional Japanese RPG", which means grinding, random, encounters and boss fights.

2) You can give Pokemon silly names. I recently traded a Shieldon called DoDoDoDoo. I don't know what the person who got her thought of that.

3) You can go up to Japanese people in the Wifi Plaza and ask them what the weather is like in Japan. (It is cloudy.)

4) You can name your rival whatever you please. Mine is called Pujols, which causes me no end of amusement, because it is pronounced POOHOLES.

5) I can play a Capture The Flag game against my wife, even when we're meant to be digging for spheres together. That gains me a wifely look, but it is worth it.

6) You can customise your Pokemon to an insane degree, enabling you to have a team you love and adore and which fits your play style. My play style is "fuck the clever shit, let's batter those fuckers senseless."

7) It's good for quick goes, but is so addictive you can lose hours by mistake. I have, on occasion, found myself on the Pokemon Diet, which is when you play so much Pokemon you forget to eat.

8) News stories about my wife appear on TVs in my game.

9) It rewards clever, skillful play as well as grinding out levels.

10) My favourite Pokemon is Pickahu, boringly enough.

I loved the first (or second or red) game on the gameboy! Ace!

Squirtle is my favourite.

I really should get around to playing The Pokey Man on my DS more. I loved the original to bits.

FTFM. I would play Pokey Mans on it too as I liked the original ones. Even the yellow one that had Pikachu going in the huff if you put him in storage.

I like Primeape best.

I play the Pokemon, though it has got a little dull - I put many hours into Pearl, but Platinum just hasn't grabbed me the same way, being more or less the same. It's still there, though, and will happily take an hour or three from me at some point soon.

I am always of the "bash them and never play against a human".

I love it for once passing FireRed it to my housemate and then being unable to get the cartridge off him for three weeks.

And I am easily amused - calling a character "you ****" so that some of the dialogue comes out as "Welcome, you ****" makes me smile, especially if I've forgotten what I called someone.

It is great, but possibly only *really* great the first time through.
