Hi folks, two quick questions for you.
(1) When playing Gears 2 I have noticed that if i try to host a match it says something like 'NO! You don't want to do that, your connection is actually quite piss poor.' (or words to that effect). I also have problems when playing games of Fifa against randoms (and being too polite to RAGE QUIT I have to play to the end and experience a humiliating 3-0 defeat*, whilst my players appear to do nothing but teleport about the pitch) and to my utter shock, horror and despair I even experience horrible lag during L4D last night.
Is there something I can do to improve this? I vaguely remember during halo matchmaking it advised on the status of your NAT (am I getting the lingo right?).
I am also about to get connected with a wireless adaptor, does this have any sort of negative effect to your connection?

(2) When playing L4D recently with Miss Malabar and Miss SDG, in the after game lobby Miss SDG was subjected to some particularly nasty abuse over voice chat from the opposite team. The only reason we could think of for this is because they heard a bunch of girls on the other team, looked for the obviously girly name and targetted her. She now wants to change her name to something a bit more unisex and I know it cost 800 points- my question is will she port over her friends list or will she need to add them all again? Rich, I guess you are the one in the know about this?

I know I said it was quick questions but in case you haven't noticed I blab on a bit. Cheers guys! :kiss:

*Miss SDG is reading this over my shoulder and commented '3-0? You're being a bit kind to yourself.'

Everything comes over, you are still on their friends lists, and they are still on yours. Your score is preserved, etc etc.

Having said that before she lays the points down, firstly, get a few people to file complaints about her gamertag. If Microsoft overreact she'll get a free change. Also, email Microsoft (the main man, Stephen Toulose, is on Twitter: @stepto and stepto.com) and say "people were being nasty to me and I want a gender neutral name". Then pay 800 points if neither tactic works.

Right, the NAT thing can mess up chat & setting up games but it won't do anything about the lag, either your connection is being a shit or it's whoever you're playing. Sometimes rebooting the router seems to help sort a shitty connection.

For some reason they appear to have removed the NAT checking thingy from the dashboard, but not to worry, the NAT thing is just checking essential ports are open on your router.
You'll get instructions on how to check/open your router's ports at http://portforward.com/
According to support the ports you want open are:
* TCP 80
* UDP 88
* UDP 3074
* TCP 3074
* UDP 53
* TCP 53

Or you could just put the xbox into the router's DMZ (demilitarized zone) which saves a bit of pissiing around opening ports.

It's more straightforward than it sounds, but if this is confusing you or sounds like too much hassle don't worry, give me a shout & I'll do it for you. I've did it for every other bugger & I've no seen yies in yonks.

I've used the wireless adapter since I got my xbox & it's fine even oposite corners of the house.

Finally, when Jenifry changes her tag you might want to message her mates that don't post here so they know who it is, or not if they like surprises :D

PS. Can we pick her new name?

BigHairyGeoff is a fat, greasy, waster who still lives in his mum's basement at 38. Also, his mum smokes roll-ups!

Because it's Xbox Live. People get abused for their sex, their race, the size of their underpants, the lot.

Time to start shouting C*NT at people I think.

Also a polite query into the oik's penicular size, current housing arrangement (and whether their mum lets them stay up late) and whether they have ever experienced getting it wet should do the trick. Perhaps simply referring to him as "chipolata" or "peanut" instead of his tag could be a fun game!

I don't understand why someone would abuse a chick. My natural instinct it to start cheesing on!! LOL!

I might pay to change my name to "HotChick69" or something just so I can have a go at trying out some abuse responses.....

Within too long of playing with Randoms, I got so tired of hearing their general shit that I went for the "I don't ever want to hear them, or let them hear me" option.

Playing with Randoms got so much better after that.

This seems a better place than any to put this:

On the 30th April I had a charge for £39.99 from Microsoft Xbox taken out of my account. I thought this was a bit strange seeing as I renew my Xbox Live account in Sept/Oct time. Turns out it's for my original Xbox 1 account 'myoptika'. It seems I never cancelled it when I got my 360 18 months ago. Whoops.

They've refunded me for this year, which is nice as they didn't have to do it. Hurrah to Xbox Customer Services! Boo to my stupidity.
