Having not played a Thief game since the first one's first level, I don't know what to think of it. Others speak highly of it, though.

Never got far in Theif on XBox, would one of those games that only a lack of achievements sees me overlook for playing on the 360 though.

I'm sure it will be as good as Deus Ex 3.

Thief 1 and 2 are two of my most favouritest games in the world, ever. Thief 3, while having some pleasing moments, is basically a pile of shit in comparison.

This is worrying. Before Ion Storm folded there was some discussion there about a concept they'd come up with for a new Thief game that revolved around the modern day rather than the Thiefsiesverse or whatever it's called.

I hope the name isn't an indication that they're going down this concept's route.

being modern or not is not the issue here. If they game is good, with depth and not dumbed down, it's good in modern day, in ancient rome, or in Alpha Centauri with cyborgs.

I disagree. A large part of what made Thief and Thief 2 (and Thief 3, albeit less so) so enjoyable was it's setting and the main character.

To put it into modern day would have to change both of those by necessity, and I don't think it'd work.

I loved Thief 1, had my all time scary gaming moment playing it! Thief 2, never finished always mean to, but well, I am lazy. Thief 3, got bored way too quickly. The main problem I had was the AI was not quite right and for a game like this, I want it perfect. I could play it with stick men with the correct AI.

Thief 2 was one of the greatest games ever. Made it about 20% of the way into T3, the reintroduction of the fantasy elements from the first game (wisely dropped from the sequel) alienated me entirely.

Eh? There were plenty of fantasy elements in Thief 2.

I never liked any of the thief games, to be honest. But then, I really dislike stealth games as a genre.

Well yeah, if you're counting the steam-based stuff (I'm not) and a couple of ghosts. Maybe the odd giant spider. But it was decidedly played down compared to T1.

After playing the first Tenchu game, I thought I liked stealth games. Turns out I just like Tenchu.

I've only ever played the second, and it's still one I load up now and then. Great game, sacks of atmosphere.

Thifourf.. fucking hell. Whoever came up with that deserves to die.

The only one I ever got at all far in was the third.

That level took hours due to being too scared to move.

If I ever knew what THAT level was, I've forgotten.

I do remember the haunted library and crypt levels in The Metal Age, though. They shat me right up.

The first time I saw that library ghost I think I lost a good three months off my lifespan. Also those psycho fuckers in the cathedral. And the bit in the graveyard if you took the wrong turn. But the best parts were when you were being stalked by ordinary guards and they still managed to scare the crap out of you.

T'was the penultimate one of T3ief Thief 3. I found it very unnerving.

The only stealth game I really like is the first Manhunt, so I'm probably not best qualified to comment.

The haunted library in Thief 2 scared the bejeezus out of me too. I was playing it in the dark at 2am in the morning, alone in the house. When the ghoulish sounds started coming through the speakers, I damn well shit myself.
