My grandma loves audio books. She also loves horror ones in particular. She mainly likes spooky stuff rather than gory whatsits.

So if you can suggest any spooky authors and any unabridged audiobooks that would be handy.

Just author will be fine though and I can seek the audio books.

She also liked the Montague Pluke stories by Nicholas Rhea which aren't spooky at all but she loves them all the same. So if you know anything about books like that it would be handy.

Neil Gaiman's got good audiobooks, very well read. American Gods isn't that spooky but is gripping - Neverwhere is good also.

M. R. James. I always read/watch his stories at Christmas. Some are right scary though, but they're wonderfully spooky.

:this:

Whistle & I'll Come to You Lad is a classic. There was a very good, but completely different interpretation, done in a short film with Michael Hordern. When he's running down the beach pursued by the ghost, it's genuinely chilling.

Also she prefers it if it's just one really long story rather than a compilation of short ones. I'm pretty sure Gaiman wouldn't be her cup of tea. It's got to be pretty straight stuff and Gaiman would be a bit too skewed and weird. I think lovecraft might be a bit too old but it's worth a shot I guess.. She particularly likes James Herbert and has enjoyed a Dean Koontz one.

Of course, the worst thing about Lovecraft is that he was a dirty big racist.

that one isn't even near my favorites of him. My picks ara A Shadow over Innsmouth and The Dream Quest for The Unknown Kadath. I read Herbert West:Reanimator last week on my daily metro trips. I had no idea i still had Lovecraft stories left to read.

Yes he was. No sort of "but it was the mindset of the time" will hide it.

The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, classic mystery / horror tale that must have been made into an audio book.

Of course if you want long then there's always the unabridged 'The Stand' by King and 'The Talisman' by King / Straub.

Thanks for the suggestions, we'll see how we get on if I find any of the stuff at the library.
