Stories like this make me so angry. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/execs ... tal-legend

Gonks wrote:
Tim Schafer has revealed that publishing executives asked him to change heavy metal action-adventure Brütal Legend into a "hip-hop" or "country music" game, back when it was originally pitched.

It was only after the success of Guitar Hero, which turned metal into big business for the games industry, that Double Fine Productions was able to get its action-adventure starring Jack Black signed. Otherwise it could have been Billy Ray Cyrus. Imagine.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Schafer explained: "When we were first pitching Brütal Legend, it was before the first Guitar Hero game was announced and we were like, 'There's this game in a heavy metal world', [and they said], 'We like the game, but could we change it to be a hip-hop game, or maybe country music?'

Still looking forward to it, loike.

I'd love a country music game, myself. I only found out last night that SingStar country came out in the US last year, so I need to import that.

lol. I still don't know what's the game about. Seems like a mix between God of War and Guitar Hero, with guitar controllers. But i have no idea how is it going to be played

I'm all over this game. V exciting. When it was first announced that was the moment I knew I would eventually be getting a 360.

It seems to be a bit Zelda + Pikmin + Brawler.

Also good use of an ü.

What they don't understand is that the majority of people play games DESPITE the 'street' bullshit, not because of it.

No no no, what the game needs is more people in 10 gallon hats warbling about Uncle Sam kicking ass for the man. Each copy will come pre-packaged with your very own spitoon.

On Radio 2 last week they had an interview with Billy Ray Cyrus, who they introduced as "Better known as Miley's dad". Fuck me I felt old.

This is the problem - I'm too old for Radio 2.

A 3rd person country-em-up where you control Reba McEntire and the cast of her wacky sitcom woudl indeed be excellent. I'd buy it. With unlockable characters like Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack and Randy Travis. Heck, I can just picture a JRPG-style battle screen with those four lined up against a force of mutated cattle or something.

GARTH used belly bounce.

BOSSIE TEH COW hit for 14 damages!

REBA used plastic surgery.

ITZAMOOMOO TEH COW's stats have randomised!

Failing that, making a country music-inspired world (in the same way as Brutal Legend's metal world) would be very cool. A mixture of wild west and modern rural stuff would be fantastic.

i only know Billy Ray Cyrus because of the song on Singstar. And its become a bit of a joke song between us where we really can't sing without laughing. But we just don't get country music over here.

The intro to this is my reaction to listening to The Albanian Flid and myp talk. Needs more Vitus with "Born too Late".

I know it's got Jack Black as a roadie and everyone is getting jizz pissed over it, but what is the actual game?

Glad to hear it. The very thought of the man and his single overly smarmy and sarcastic tone of voice that he uses for everything, be it sincere or not makes my blood boil.

And Be Kind Rewind, which everyone raved about, but which had such a tooth-grindingly tedious start (I mean, Fats Waller IS great, no question about it, but what's he got to do with all this?) that we switched it off after 20 minutes of NOTHING HAPPENING.

Actually that's the one film I found him okay in... but I was young, and might hate it were I to rewatch it now. I find him less funny than Gaywood.

THAN GAYWOOD!!!

Really enjoyed the demo, looks fun, will get. Fantastic presentation.

I played through the demo with a shit eating grin all the way through.

Jack Black manages to not play Jack Black for once and if anything he's less of a caricature than in real life despite it being an over the top metal landscape where you can kill people with a guitar and knock them into next week with an Axe/Guitar combo.

Reminds me of Dead Space in its execution - it's nothing new from a gameplay point of view but it's a thoroughly refined evolution of the genre dripping with atmosphere.
