OK so just after a bit of generic advice. My girlfriend has a laptop, she bought it from Ebuyer ages ago (nigh on 2 years) and it was a budget make, called Maxdata, who apparently had good reputation in Europe. Whatever, she wanted a cheap laptop.
anyway, recently the exhaust(?) fan on the side has started making a noise like a big broken fan thing, and has also decided to not spin at all causing the laptop to just switch off, presume due to over heating.
Now the questions - is/are laptop fans generic peices, which can be bought and swapped out? Or is there specific ones for specific machines? If so any tips to find out which one she has?
Secondly, how easy is it to swap the parts out?
Bare in mind Im not very computer savvy or great with buildig things.
thanks

Yah, my old toshiba got so that the fan was on all the time, sounded like a hovercraft at full bore. When I opened it up there was a thin layer of matted cat fur completely blocking the heat pump fins..
