I've been watching this. Have to say I love it.. It's Big Brother but they batter each other at the end of each ep to settle their differences. Can't say fairer than that.

I must say I've found the yanks incredibly mouthy, irritating and disrespectful. So they got their just deserts last night. Awesome stuff.

You guys will be happy to hear that I will probably be getting an XB360 Arcade within the next month as my nextdoor neighbour is kindly donating me a 32" widescreen telly. It's not a TFT flat type but it'll do nicely to stuff a console into I fancy playing one of them UFC games, I'm a big fan.

The demo of the 360 UFC came out last week (for Gold members) and the people playing it on rllmuk think it's excellent stuff.

My brother loves UFC, so he's dying for it to come out. He's only a silver member, though, so he can't try the demo yet. Poor kid.

Thing about UFC is that you think it's going to be awesome, but it always boils down to groundwork, with the pair grinding down for ages. It's far from a spectator sport. Boxing is so much better in this respect. A game of it would just end up being "press A to stand up".

It's real. One of the nutcases in the local pub does it, and, by all accounts, fairly well.

As a concept, it is interesting, up until the point that it goes to ground, which is about 20 seconds in. Then, as a spectator sport the "no holds barred" aspect of it gets really fucking dull, as it's wrestling groundwork, and by all accounts, duller than Judo.

Occasionally you'll get some fun stuff, like the 'superman punch', or one of the counters to a triangle choke, which is a legit powerbomb, but yes, mostly very boring.

Brock Lesnar is quite good fun to watch though, as he is hugely quick for his size.

Highlight clip reels show some great punchy kicky action, but watching a full fight is often really disappointing as these guys have said - usually coming down to some big brutish guys trying to mount/avoid being mounted and grapple/block each other on the floor, it's not particularly exciting.

So, UFC: if they took the shorts off it'd just be gay porn, right?

From the other posts in this thread, it seems the UFC game I had on the Dreamcast was actually pretty accurate. Unfortunately this also made it boring too.

Shit. And I thought I never made the school team because I had a tendancy to flap outside off-stump.

I find UFC type stuff tolerable sometimes. I find the UK based stuff is often best as it displays far greater skill than the Americans because they guys are generally lighter. Some of the King of the Cage stuff on TWC was great to watch. Also at the end of the match they always seem very sporting about it. Which is good.

I quite like UFC. Once you get to know how it works, and the various fighting styles, it becomes quite interesting. Even the bits where they're rolling around on the floor can be cool if you know exactly what each of the competitors is trying to accomplish.

I think one of the mods should probably split out this xbox-y stuff to another thread :-)

i rather liked UFC on the Dreamcast because it is one of the only beat em ups that actually lets you react to an attack. most fighting games give you a split second but UFC, if you know the buttons to press, lets you reverse and escape from things.

When we stumble in from the pub with our pie and chips we love watching UFC and the other similar fighty stuff. Quite often it does just degenerate into two guys in sex-esque positions punching each other in the ribs for three rounds, but the occasional fight is spectacularly exciting.

So, I was going to make an MMA thread but decided to see if we had one (searching 'Lesnar' to find it) and this'll do. Oddly, I've posted in it. Some shit about the Dreamcast. Whatever.

Despite the weak-looking card, I'm really looking forward to UFC127. The big fights on it (Penn v Fitch and Bisping v Whoever) don't interest me but George Sotiropolous is fighting and he's literally amazing. If you get a chance to see him watch out for how he transitions on the ground. He's spectacularly technical.

I am sad to see the demise of Fedor. He was my favourite.

I never saw him fight because of the whole Russian Mafia thing and him not being on UFC. Sounds like he used to be awesome though.

Okay I genuinely couldn't have cared less about the main fights for UFC 127 (this saturday). Although George Sotiropolous is fighting and he's just amazing.

Its just as well Rivera has been putting in the hype hours because I'm finding it tough to get excited about the main event.

In fact I'm mostly looking forward to seeing Nick Ring, who was probably the best fighter on TUF11 but was forced out with an injury.

But yeah, Sotiropolous is awesome. I always liked him, but his beating Lauzon really put him over the top for me. And not excited for the main event?! Jon Fitch is remarkable, and if it hadn't been for GSP, he'd have comfortably been welterweight champion for years.

The two or three people following this thread may be interested to hear that the the UFC has bought up its main competition in the US (Strikeforce) which has the potential for some great fights but will probably result in the big SF names jumping ship once Zuffa inevitably starts to roll them into the UFC divisions.

Still, at least Michael Bisping wan't a massive arsehole in his last fight. Oh wait....

That's very bad news for competition in the sport. It's one way to get Fyodor's contract, anyway.

Not that I advocate spitting, but whatever. If you run your mouth before a fight, make sure you don't lose.

I just don't know what to think of Bisping. He takes a lot of stick but doesn't come across as a bad guy (that said, I never watched his TUF series). Rivera was hilarious but him and his team did take it a bit far. They wanted a reaction from Bisping and they got it.

Also, Bisping apologised right away. Although I read that Dana White is going to punish him for the knee.

I wonder what Paul Daley will do? He got banned from the UFC but is due to fight for Strikeforce.

Presumably his contract with Strikeforce is unchanged although he's already had an online hissy-fit about working for Zuffa again so that may change. Honestly, its like the guy doesn't want to have a career

And I do like Michael Bisping. I think he's usually pretty level-headed. He's done some great interviews with clueless UK media who are convinced its all human cock-fighting where he talked about the rules, discipline and respect the fighters have for each other. The Rivera thing tainted that a bit for me (the knee to the head as much as the spitting and getting in his face after the fight). Still, he's apologised and will probably get some kind of fine so I guess its over with now.

And yeah, I'm a fan of Bisping. It's mainly Americans who hate Bisping, because they feel America should have the monopoly on mixed martial artists acting like knobs.
