I just got a new USB hard drive. What filesystem should I format it as?

I use it for music and films, and sometime files over 4gb. I don't really understand filesystems that well. I am on XP.

Edit: It came in NTFS, but I know that that's no good for files over 4gb.

If you're using it with a 360, I'd stick with fat32. You're right about the 4gb thing though...

Edit: Hang on... NTFS can do bigger than 4gb. I'm an eejit. Fat32 *can't*

Aha, maybe NTFS is the best.

I won't be using it with a 360, just the PC.

Then, my boy, NTFS is your answer.

Ooh, check your Xbox 360 supports whatever you choose. It can be a bit fussy about which partitions it detects too, so test it out before you properly fill it up.

Being able to plug my (mac formatted) hard drive into my Xbox to watch videos (TED videos work excellently) is very HIGH SOCIETY.

My 360 is in the same place/screen as my 360 though, so I wouldn't really use it.

Guess not, but situations change, and you might want to later on down the line. And once your hard drive is full reformatting becomes thankless.
