OK, subject matter at hand : squash. (the cordial type).

Since kicking my terrible fizzy drink habit I have gone back to squash. I couldn't do this until recently as the only option I had was cool aid. (add bucket of sugar to E'd up powder and then stir hopelessly..).

Faves at the moment are.

Ribena, Vimto (mmm) and boggy standard lime juice (currently like Tesco's).

I do know though that different parts of the UK are graced with other squash drinks that us southern shandy drinking bastards can't get.

When I was a kid I used to spend my 6ish week school holidays in Chadderton (lancs.. Right up the road from the Oldham football stand) and at the super market we could get 'Quosh' in strawberry and tropical. They were quite simply the nicest squash cordials I have ever had. Sadly though down in London we could only get the orange.

So what's your fave? good part is because I was 'out of the game' as it were for so long there are bound to be many that I have forgotten all about, this way I can be reminded. I am partial to the odd drop of fruit and barley too, the strawberry/summer fruits one is nice :)

And I keep seeing adverts for Jones Soda Co (pure cane sugar, best rush from a fizzy drink evarr) but haven't seen it for sale here.

Anyone seen any?

Fave on that is the sour apple and Kiwi and strawberry (used to get it all the time in the states).

Raspberry Ripple squash is really nice. I think you can get it from Morrisons.

I only drink Vimto and Lime (Roses) cordial. Not too keen on orange, although Robinsons do a nice Orange & Mango (watch out for sweeteners!)

Morrissons do a few treehugger* type cordials which are tasty but expensive. The Ginger one is particularly nice.

*Forget the brand but its all organic ingredients and all that shite.

Really Light Ribena is nice, too. Doesn't leave your teeth furry after drinking it, either.

Robinson's have just massively pissed me off with the labelling on their orange squash. On the back is the usual green ticky box thing as follows:

TICK NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS
TICK NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS
TICK ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
TICK ADDED SUGARS
TICK JUICE FROM CONCENTRATE
TICK SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS

Now, who can see what they've done there?

Actually Kovacs I usually drink the diet Vimto. TBH? I can hardly tell the difference and it's usually BOGOF.

Lately though Tescos seem to be tightening the screws because hardly anything I like is on sale or BOGOF (pfft).

That raspberry ripple one sounds awesome. I frickin love raspberries. Infact, the blue 'razzberry' cool aid was the only one I really liked enough to go through the shit of making it (that and moonberry juice..).

I love morrisons too. They have really awesome stone baked pizza. I get the margy and add a can of jumbo lump crab meat. Mmmm.

He's right, in that artificial sweeteners are quite clearly "artificial flavours".

What annoyed me more was the way they, with the same ticks and green "Yay!" colouring, suggested to the eye that the "artifical sweetener" and "added sugar" ones should be "no".

The commercial squashes are just fizzy drinks without the fizz, they have the exact same shit additives. Robinsons in particular is aspartame hell in almost all cases.

You might as well drink the fizz.

My mate gave me some of this the morning after that night we stayed up till the wee hours drinking copious amounts of booze & playing "The Top Gear Song" on Guitar Hero while wearing wigs. It's very nice, but furs my teeth up fast.

Anything with "High Juice" written on the front is good. Supermarket own brand high juice orange squash is the shizzle.

I thought it was just rebranded squash - is it actually juice concentrate or something? Free of TEH EEEVILS?

Looking at the bottle on my desk, iti s free from aspartame (it is the sugared version), and has 50% from concentrate juice.

No, just means it contains more juice than non high-juice.

High juice is something like 50% juice, regular squash something like 0.1%

Second figure may be a lie, but that's generally the idea, and why one tastes like juice and the other tastes like some weird chemical thing.

Do they generally have the artifical badness in, though? I'd assume not with that much juice in it.

Hi juice gives me the squits. Although I do drink about 4 pints of cordial a day.

I wish Ocean Spray would start selling their CranGrape here.

M&S High Juice Orange Squash (from the bottle in front of me) contains:

No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners.

It's 50% orange juice from concentrate, then sugar, then comminuted orange from concentrate (15%) and then some acids and preservatives and water and natural shit.

I can only have one brand of flu tables as they put colours in the tables.
God knows why they need to.

We're built to handle small amounts of it.
A line from a book I've read (which always causes arguments so I'm not going to say which) involves a human from a much poorer and more simple dimension drinking some Pepsi, which was so sweet he almost passed out. That always interested me, for some odd reason.

Hi juice gives me the squits. Although I do drink about 4 pints of cordial a day.

I wish Ocean Spray would start selling their CranGrape here.

Only 4 pints aday... I have double that. Mainly because I am cutting back on coffee (no offence :) )

:)

Actually as soon as I awaken my coffee machine has done all the work and I have 3 large cups before anything else.

And a ciggy with each one, can't beat a whore's breakfast ! :D

Whence married my ex wife decided she was going to go on a diet. This meant that she only drank diet soda.

Being that I didn't have much choice I decided to join her and for a year I did not drink a single full sugar drink.

Then one night we went to a Diner (something else that was off limits) to celebrate her losing 50lbs in a year. I ordered a vanilla coke (a real one made from vanilla syrup and fountain soda made from syrup) and took one sip and felt incredibly sick. I just couldn't get over how disgustingly sickly it tasted.

I sent it back in the end (paid for it though) and ordered water.

It's the same with greasy foods. I stopped eating anything greasy for ages (didn't have cackdonalds in a year) and then one morning when heading off to the pine barrens in southern NJ I had to stop at Walmart to get some nightcrawlers. I then realised I hadn't eaten any breakfast and it would be a long ass day. So I ordered a double cheeseburger from the MD's inside Wally world.

I felt sick ALL DAY and when I GRAPHIC GROSS THING INSIDE
