Ok, I've created this thread to stop people who want to play the multiplayer but not read about the story or missions yet.

I might merge this back in once the game's been out a couple of months.

speedboat races also r bogus. I did enjoy the different GTA races (starting on foot or in-car) though.

Deathmatch is good if only for the fact that I'm quite good at it (SHOKKA).

I'm good with the rocket launcher. People keep trying to run me over while I wield one. With hilarious results.

I've decided that I can't be arsed with GTA multiplayer:

Reason A: I'm shit at it
Reason B: It's too random and chaotic for me.
Reason C: I'm shit at it
Reason D: I find it very frustrating when you spend a while dodging people, trying to get kitted up, find a likely target, and then discover that the target has lucked out and has the rocket launcher, and you're dead.

That's sad, Punders old chap. The chaoticness of it all is part of why I think it's brilliant.

I'm crap at Burnout and still play it, though. ;)

Yeah, one of the main reasons I play games is for the satisfaction of improving my skills and then one day hopefully besting someone in some triumphant fashion. Every time I came last in Halo 3 (at first) it mattered not because every so often, I'd managed to kill Perkies. This would soften the blow of his inevitable victory. And each time, I'd do a bit better.

We need a 'Where's ya BALLS son?' dimlie.

Well, last night I logged on to Live, thinking "Ooh, I'll play some GTA tonight, I'll get off the first island if I can!", when it flashed up "Myoptikakaka wants to play"...I'd only played for maybe an hour, not very far and still learning the controls. But I thought fuck it, it'll be an opportunity to learn the game if nothing else.

I didn't come last, which is shocking. And now I can fly a helicopter reasonably competantly, and a powerboat. Guns, not so great, but I'm sure that'll come with ease ;)

I even managed to kill some people, steal some drug-laden cars and return them to a compound, be on the winning team in Cops and Crooks, and once everyone had gone for the night the last four of us did the "assualt a ship" thingy which was quite fun. Oh and the thing about stealing a SWAT van and getting a guy from a plane to his safehouse.

All in all, apart from a few niggling framerate issues when it gets hectic, it was good fun.

Although my mic didn't seem to be working all the time, which is a bit annoying. It works perfectly in every other game (except Burnout, but everyone has that).

If there's a game going on tonight, I'm up for it.

The chaos in every game is what makes it so exciting.

Last night in Team Mafiya Work, the first task saw both teams arrive at the objective pretty much simultaneously, leading to a Heat style shootout of epic proportions that eventually ended with me grabbing hold of the objective (after shooting the shit out of pundabaya, who previously had it) and escaping in an SUV, with myp legging it after me to protect me while I got it to Petrovic.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what a GTA Race is. You have to see it for yourself.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Everybody has to race from the same starting point to a single destination point somewhere on the map. If you don't turn on starting cars, everybody starts off running like crazy from the starting point all fighting over whatever weapons and cars are nearby.

With 12 people, it's SUPAH MANIC!

I'm off to see Irony Man tonight, but I should be about here and there over the weekend. If there's any multiplayer high-jinks going on I'd really appreciate an invite. KTHXBY.

I enjoyed cunting about on the moped trying to do the loop circuit with the checkpoints. And closing my eyes through 'times square' because I suddenly realised how good the environments look and where I was and that I'd not got there in story mode yet. And being the gang boss and just fucking running straight at the marker without looking at the map or for anyone else with an SUV full of my team chasing behind me shouting GOATBOY! GOATBOY! GET IN THE FUCKING CAR! And bearing down on the opposition in a car full of my mates, annihilating another guys motor with all four guns blazing, then catching fire and chasing an escaping opponent into the trees whilst shouting at my passengers to bail, thn running the fucker over, then bailing myself at the last moment, picking myself up, running and just catching the end of the explosion at my back, which flung, me onto the floor, where some cunt wandered over and shot me.

Gets better every time I play. Game of the millennium, until they remake San Andreas for nextgen.

Lack of helicopter racing.

On the upside I did manage to win a few times, Cops n Crooks not withstanding.

I think because there were only 7 of us for most of the game, as opposed to 12 or 16 or so. Also, I think that the various differences in how much we've each played GTAIV, and are familiar with various tricks in it, is starting to affect the balance. Mostly the same people dying and stuff...

Hello boys :)

My copy of GTA IV arrived this morning. I have no memory card for my Eggsbox so I couldn't bring my save with me, but I'll definitely be up for some mulitiplayer GTA shenanigans in a couple of days (I actually have no idea what goes on in multiplayer, and I will no doubt be absolutely rubbish at it, but there you go.)

I also found my headset, so yea!

Well no - it would be a yellow russian. Or the original would be called a caucasian russian.
