I think I'm going to get it, based entirely on the single game I played with Lave at the Trocedero.

I'll be getting it later without bothering with the trial, because IT IS OUT RUN!

I won't be bothering the leaderboards though as I only ever use automatic gears.

If the arcade cab is anything to go by, the steering wheel should make for ace fun. However, the arcade wheel is weighted and it physically spins round when you crash with enough force to snap your wrist if you're not careful. I doubt home steering wheels do this.

If it helps, we can pretend that we're making do with playing it on a 360 but would rather be playing the far superior PS3 version?

Today is FUCKING DRAGGING. Why isn't it hometime already? I must be travelling at close to the speed of light or something (would explain all the weight I have put on recently)

I have today played Magical Sound Shower (Euro Remix) in preparation and dug out my old pic of my 1338 Heart Attack score (yes 1 too many for proper m3d sk1llz etc) that I sent to Chopley Turnip in a gloaty fashion many years ago.

Anyone actually played it yet?

Snuck a quick game in. So my first impressions:

The Eurogamer Review is pretty much on the money.

Cons: Are all minor but at first play:
  • The leaderboard that pops up after a match is the local leaderboard and not your friends leaderboard (some idiots over on Eurogamer are saying it has no friends leaderboard - but it does, it's just in the leaderboard section, and then you cycle through to it with Y).
  • The online play has no ranked mode. I don't really give a shit, but I guess it annoys some people. To behonest I'm glad they've just minimised forking the user base.
  • Thats about it.

Pros:
  • IT'S OUTRUN!
  • The online mode is acebest. I hosted a game and it gave me lots of great options. You can switch between specific goals, or simple outrun (where the guy in first chooses at the fork) or 15 track marathon mode. For online games Rubber banding is an option and can be turned on and off between matches. Perfect. It also does something that I wish L4D did. It lets you set a number of private slots and open slots. So if you have 2 friends coming you can set the other 3 spaces to be filled by randoms and you don't run the risk of them stealing Bezzie positions. It allows for quick changing of options without having to dump back out of lobbies and the such so it should work brilliantly for Bezzieness. - EDIT: It can also let you choose whether cars pass through each other or not.

I felt a bit stupid using my last points to buy a game I already have but overall I would say that it actually complements owning the originals. OR2 and C2C are now the mission modes and to play them I have to chuck the disk in and devote a sizeable chunk of time to complete the missions.

With The XBLA version though it has all the truly arcade parts and has put them a simple push of a button away, which for a game like outrun makes a massive difference. That and with proper leaderboards it is grand.

It's pure distilled Outrun. No padding or anything. And it stands proud because of it.

Got an RGB cable? It solved most problems for me? But more than it being SD I think it's having a 4:3 aspect ratio. Once I got a widescreen SDTV things were a lot better. So much so that I've not got a problem with text.

Timewise, I would just say focus on learning how to slide, but don't slide if you can get away with not doing.

Have we got enough for a troupe of Mister Men yet? Also, can anyone else confirm if Outrun 2 (Xbox Original) has been borked or not?

Er, I'm saying I'm still glad I've got C2C.

It's ace though. Just played a bunch of multiplayer. Outrun! Against People! Without having to go to an Arcade! Or See Gaywoods Face!

Scrolling through an unsorted friends leaderboard is SO much fun. That needs patching.

Sorry.. I was skim-reading the boards at work and mis-read.

Just had a few games of it myself. The presentation is a little rough around the edges and the handling seems a little over-sensitive (haven't tried tweaking it yet) but it's still Out Run which is the main thing.

And yeah, the friends' leaderboard is a bit of a mess.

Does anyone think it looked better in 2D on the Xbox original? The colours were weirdly over-saturated or something on the quick test-blast I had (720p@60 over component).

Hmmmm I'm currently 35th in the world on Heart Attack Route A with a score of 2527, although I knobbed up stage 5 a bit and only got a double AA, so further work is required.

Bring it on Trousers!

I think there was arguably less slowdown on the XBox original version as well, and somehow the massive draw distance felt more impressive, although maybe that's just 'cause they managed to make an XBox game look so unfeasibly gorgeous.

I don't care though, it's OutRun, on the 360, with online leaderboards - all else is irrelevance.

Tell me about it, that guy's presence at the top of so many of many of my games' friends leaderboards is borderline scary.

I went loopy trying to beat his score on a single one of Geometry Wars Evolved's modes a few nights ago, and didn't even get close.

Anyway, 2527 is just for starters, I know I can beat it 'cause I didn't even triple A all five stages, which I definitely used to do back in the day when we were emailing pictures of our high scores to each other from the original XBox version of the game.

Shame its on the Outrun 2 C2C tracks rather than the original ones, which I prefer.

But still Excellent!

I'm 59th in the world currently for Route A in Outrun mode and 15th(!) In Time Attack. Doubt I'll get that high again although there's plenty of scope for improvement on those runs.

Takes a bit of getting used to again how twitchy the cars are but once you settle into a groove it's completely natural.

I'll see your 15th in the world and raise you to 10th in the world. (You're 17th now.)

I lost at least 0.3 seconds on the last few bends, so there's still room for improvement.

I'd forgotten how immensely fucking awesome this game is, although they do need to sort the friends leaderboards out and have them work like every other bloody friends leaderboard out there.

I'm not very good. Got the two easy achievements, but nothing else so far.

I still miss the 328 GTS. Wasn't in the PSP version, either, but was my car of choice in the Xbox version. Maybe it'll come back again in some DLC.

Last time I checked, I was <100 for each route.

I'm going to pretend that it wasn't due to being one of the first people to wake up and buy it...

EDIT: Anyone got any opinions on the differences between the cars?
