Not released yet, but I imagine it will be soon.

Will be very nice to just have a USB hard drive plugged into my Wii, and then never ever have to swap disc.

Theoretically, load times could be massively improved too.

I wonder if it will support GC games too? I have like 30+ GC games, and it would be nice to not have to keep them all in the front room.

Edit: The creator, waninkoko, has said it will improve load times: "I can say this works faster than 6x." (6x is the fastest the Wii disc drive will read data off a disc)

That looks good but why, like all these unofficial type multi loaders, do they have to use such an awful looking interface?

It can't be that hard to create something in keeping with the Wii's natural theme.

I am almost certain when this does get a proper release, it will eventually either support skins, or will let people tinker with it to make different looking versions.

It has sort of leaked by the way, but is currently unusable (it needs a custom IOS).

Well, it is out now.

So now you can rip Wii games to your hard drive/pen drive, and play them straight from it.

I am working on a good tutorial.

Could you also make a mediocre one and an excellent one?

In similar news, an SD GCM loader's been released for the good ol' Gamecube. I'll give it a spin.

Is there any way this could be used for, how shall we say...? Playing illegally downloaded games so you don't have to pay for them? I mean playing back-ups of course.

How much modification to the wii does it take to make this work? Like Bobby I want to back up all my games and play them from hard drive for faster loading times and to protect the precious discs :hat:

Smooth and subtle there.

You need both the cIOS and the loader, instructions are included. Let me know if these are all down, and I will rehost it.

Game size once ripped seems to vary, but one guy ripped 19 random games, and it came to 38.78gb, so expect roughly 2gb a game.

Not very clear instructions, though. Any hints? ;) (Yes, I've had Homebrew Channel loaded for quite a while. Some of the apps are very opaque about how you actually install them, however.)

Ok.

I've not done it yet (visiting my parents atm, with no SD card reader)

From what I gather, grab the cIOS installer, and run it like any other homebrew. You need to have your Wii connected to the internet (there is an offline way of doing it, but it is more complicated).

Once that is done, plug a USB mass storage device into the Wii (you will want it to support USB2.0), then run the USB loader (again, like any other homebrew). The Wii will then reformat the drive into a new filesystem (so don't leave anything you want to keep on it). From there, you can rip games.

Without doing it myself first, it's hard to give better instructions...

Say someone has lost a disc but have an ISO or something like that, can they put that on the external hard drive using their computer?

What you can do is burn the iso onto a disc, and then rip it from the disc to the hard drive.

But it would probably just be easier to have a look for your disc.

No, they must use a gramophone as the needles in hard drives are too small for the Wii to get a good grip on.

OK cool, so would my friend have to do anything else before all this to get his wii to read ISOs burnt onto DVD-Rs ?

You need to have the homebrew channel installed before you can set any of it up.

if you have already updated to system menu 4.0, it's not currently possible, but if you are on 3.4 or earlier, then head here, and follow the instructions to install the homebrew channel.

You need a copy of Twilight Princess too.

Awesome, I have Twilight Princess. I've heard mention of the TP hack before but never aksed about it or read up on it further.

I will lend him Twilight Princess then.

Thanks, Lewie.

I should point out that the SD Boot loader for the Gamecube works! Except not smoothfully, as expected.

Half the time the program may crash as it attempts to run the Apploader of your dummy original disc (or GCM image, I forget which).

Tried Sonic Gems Collection and the two Namco Museum titles so far. All games on Gems work except for Sonic CD (tch!), even after patching. And the NMs always froze on the title screen. Ah well, guess bugs still need to be ironed out and whatnot.
