See I rather like their music but Andrew Eldritch is looking rather old and rubbish these days. You can barely see them live for all the smoke. The audience is often really rough and horrible. I might not be able to see the whole gig before I have to rush back to catch the last train home. It's £18 for a ticket. Which actually seems quite reasonable. I've seen three times before and they've been quite good and all that but not overwhelmingly brilliant.

Sounds like a "not", then.

If they do the set list in any kind of chronological order you might be ok. As soon as the woman starts warbling you can fuck off and catch the train knowing you've reached the marginal revenue point for the gig.

Where's the gig?

I'd love to go, depending on the location.

Leeds or That London...

April is a pretty bad month, spending wise. Don't think I'll be able to make it.

That would be the clincher for me of not seeing them, unless it had been followed with "and they've been really bloody good every time". Currently, only two bands sit on my 'repeat regardless' list, and that's Sigur Rós and Wire.

I'd go if Zardoz was going but I think I've decided not to. Oh and Trousers, you don't get any women warbling in Sisters gigs these days. But I do like the warbling women of The Sisters of Mercy. The thing that makes me want to go see them is just that I think The Sisters of Mercy are one of the best things ever and I really like going to gigs.

If I did decide to go it would be the Leeds night.

Never seen them but love them.

I would say see them, actually. Unless you're already sure you don't want to go, I find it's always best to go to concerts. Even when I was talked into going to see Whitesnake (who were fucking awful and the loudest band I've ever seen) they were supported by Pride and Glory who were fantastic.

I once went to see The Damned who aren't my kind of thing at all, and whilst the audience was full of twats, the band were great and I'm glad I went. Or when I went to see Deep Purple for the 10th time (and knew they wouldn't be as good as the previous time) they played an obscure b-side that I like, so I'm glad I went. When Rainbow played in 95 I couldn't be arsed to go and that was their last tour as well as that one being the best shows of the tour.

Thing is, I can remember every single concert I've ever been to. It's an event and that.

Hnngh! I think I'll have to say no... Other stuff going on this month and a Holiday to pay for in May.

Thanks for the offer though...

What date is it? I'll ask Mrs Z tonight unless you think they'll sell out today.

I don't live in leeds so it's a bit difficult for me to go and get a ticket any other time than today when I happen to be going to Leeds.

They aren't going to sell out but now is your only time you can avoid about £7 in booking fees.

I was quite disappointed with the last Sigur Rós gig I went to, but I think it was entirely down to the shitty venue (Alexandra Palace — it's accoustically crap, if you ask me, being so large and empty).

I saw them first at the Salford Lowry which is much more like a medium-sized theatre than an arena, and they were absolutely mind-blowing.

Sadly the AIDS got her, if you mean Ofra Haza. But I'd certainly pay to see her do ToL again, live. As for Eldritch, if he was going to do a proper tour then fine, but a couple of shows, one in Leeds and one in London is just somehting to pay his rent and bills for the next couple of years, then he'll do it again, and repeat to fade. I'd be giving sisters every chance if they were a going concern, like, say, NIN. But where I'll support NIN through a les good album because they are at least maintaining their creativity, Eldritch can naff off.

Well Eldritch is often quite clear about him exploiting this country as he needs. He despises Britain, but we are reasonably useful for paying a few bills. That's why he lives in Hamburg. But it's probably still a live experience I fancy.

I'll have to say no then mate. If I do get a ticket at a later stage, I'll let you know.

Thanks again for the offer.

So why feel angsty about queuing up to be exploited?

I'm not feeling angsty about it. I pay him (and his band) money and (t)he(y) entertain(s) me.
