But seriously, I really enjoyed the first Phoenix Wright game, but never quite got into the second. I really should give it another go sometime. Great games for a boring long distance trip - I played the great final case on an aeroplane journey.

Sometimes I'd get a bit stuck or be trying to present the right thing at the wrong time and had to resort to trial and error, which could be a bit annoying - but then I suppose it is just like an interactive story book.

It's worth getting through 2 for the story simply because 3 is astonishingly brilliant at times (relying on both the previous games' stories).

Word to the wise though, they released them in the wrong order in the UK, because they're idiots.

The correct order is

Apollo Justice : Ace Attorney
Miles Edgeworth : Perfect Prosecutor (not out yet)

I get them from super Japan ever since I learned it was the same game with the translation built in anyway. Works out cheaper too.

I get em from yanks ville because they are still much cheaper, but I've been told that they tidy up the english translation a little. If thats not true, then it's because it's easier to resell American DS games over Japanese ones. Not that I would ever sell em.

The only time I got really confused was when a case centered on which side of the car someone had been sitting when driving, because I couldn't work out where the game was localised to, and couldn't remember which side of the road people drove on in which places, which made me cross examining a bit hairy.

Apart from Apollo Justice, where if you can't read Japanese, you're FUCKED.

Also I'm pretty sure the translations are the same across all versions (Japan/USA/Europe); put it this way, if the European version I was playing had the tidied-up translation then they need to fire their proofreader (but the translations are genuinely great apart from the typos and punctuation issues).

The Japanese AJ1 doesn't even have English as I recall (because the translation team was working on PW3) in any case, the US versions are certainly full of some very well chosen US/UK references which may or may not be in Japanese ones (mine are all US).

I have the UK version of PW but Japanese for 2+3. Apollo I have as US version. I love them to bits. They're pretty linear and frustrating but there's just something about them I can't help but love. I tentatively recommend Time Hollow to those seeking something to fill the gap. I'm a short way into it and so far it's been even more linear than PW. It does look absolutely lovely in a manga-ish way.

I didn't really care for the thing linked to at the start of this thread.

Time Hollow is like an interactive version of a feature length pilot episode of an anime. Lasts just as long, too.

I really don't like Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice.

It's interactive in the sense that you have to prod the screen every now and then to make it continue. But I'm still kind of enjoying it. It's no Phoenix Wright though.

That is why I think I liked Time Hollow more than Apollo Justice.
