What the title says. I need some recommendations for places to visit besides the obvious. Also, some website with all the concerts (specially metuhl!) events in the city would be nice.

Big Bens and Beefeaters in Soho are very friendly bars to hang out in.

I nearly bought a house down there.

Where should you go in london? Somerset House, of course. Bonus points if you dance in the fountain with a lover, then read oscar wilde short stories together, like a pair of tosspots.

Then go to the nearest coach or train station and get the hell out of there.

The Trocadero is a fun way to kill an hour. Plenty of older arcade games if you're not into this £2 a go stuff.

Ah the Trocdero. I'd be frightened to go back there in case my memories of it are shattered.

I had a go on the VR racing game in there during the early 90's. That was a couple of quid a throw even then IIRC! Felt sick as a dog afterwards so I wasn't surprised to see VR fall flat on its arse,

I'm thinking of London next month too, I'd like a nice hotel while I decide if it's just a break I need or death by knife wielding chav. What can I get for as little over £150pn as possible? Complimentary wireless would be good as I don't fancy paying for my hotel porn. Also, I like museums, shopping and short tube rides.

£150pn is quite a fucking budget, to be honest.

You shouldn't have much trouble at all finding somewhere decent. Look around South Kensington, as that's where the shopping and museums are.

We went there after the Watchmen meet and I was impressed, actually. I last went sometime in the very late 90s and it's just as entertaining (and rather more expensive, of course, but I had a "I'm on holiday" mindset so I didn't care).

I've been checking hotels on bookings.com, and they're stupidly expensive. For anything decent i have to go almost to 100€ a night for a double room.

But anyway, there are like 841 available, so i have to go by districts because i don't have the time (or want to, even if i had it). What are the best ones to stay. I guess districts like City of London, Camden, Chelsea, Kensington and Fulham are most central, and that the north side of the Thames is where the interesting stuff is, right?

Though the South Bank of the Thames is one of the best bits of London, containing the London Eye, London Aquarium, Dali Exhibition, The Globe, many lovely bars and eateries, and plenty of galleries and museums.

London is the most visited city in the world, and it shows that many people are willing to do a quick buck. Judging by the reviews i've been seeing on booking.com, i have to spend at least 400€ if i don't want to be eaten by rats

London is full of tourists these days due to the weak pound, so I'm not surprised that hotels are expensive.

We used to get greenwich to ourselves for the three months between christmas and easter, not this year :(

Avoid staying in the City, as hotels there will be expecting business travellers and the prices will match.

Your best bet is to aim for staying near transport hubs and then travelling from there - Victoria, London Bridge, Euston.

The Hilton Metropole is about 100 quid a night IIRC for a basic 2 person room. I stayed there in October. Not great but not terrible either.

On the downside, Richard Littlejohn is known to stay there.

There are tonnes of B+Bs on Ebury Street. As a child I knew most of the various manager's children.

I have no idea of the prices. Sorry.

I stayed there the night before my wedding. It was shit.

Horses for courses. It's shit but fairly cheap compared to the other prices being thrown around. It's just a travel tavern in the centre of London with tiny rooms.

My in-laws have stayed at the Park Plaza County Hall Hotel, and that's very nice. You can get rooms there for £150 per night, and it's right by Waterloo station.

I would consider 100 euros very cheap to be honest.

You're right on all counts, I live on the border of Kensington and Fulham. Said South Bank can be accessed very quickly from various stations along the district line which is right by me. (West Kensington station)

Actually you're a football fan, you can get a tour of Stamford Bridge for £15 if that interests.

He lives in Leeds now doesn't he?

Also, http://www.chelseafc.com/page/StadiumTo ... 29,00.html

That said, I do live about 10 minutes walk from the Bridge, it's really very handy.

Monaco! He's a tax exile, so he can only spend a few weeks a year over here. Which I imagine suits Leeds supporters!

Hah :)

I've never quite worked out if he was a good thing overall for Chelsea or not.
