Did I tell you my 360 is dead?

Well it is, and I'm waiting to send it off to Mr Gates. I understand the process takes around 2 weeks. The thought is killing me.

Am I correct in thinking I'll get the same console case back but with new/reconditioned guts?

If I were to get an Elite do they all come with a transfer cable?

Is it just the new Maroon (RE5 Elite) that will have a guaranteed cool runnings Mr Falcon chip set?

Heyalp! Heyalp!

God I feel sick...

You need a temperature of 700 degrees to melt a HDD. I discovered this last night whilst watching CSI:NY. Mack learnt that in the marines.

You want a Jasper, not a Falcon. You only get the transfer cable with HDDs, I believe.

I would have thought a burst of automatic fire would provide similar results.

Just wait for two weeks until it's fixed. It's lovely weather and you should be playing out, not sat in all the time playing videogames.

He also learnt things like that in the marines. It would probably prove a tricky task to list just how much knowledge he assimilated from his time in the marines, but I can only assume it is quite a lot as he never stops banging on about it.

Jasper yes, that's what I meant.

You don't get a transfer cable with an Elite? That's bullshit, fucking bullshit.

Being outside is overated and potentially life threatening.

Jaspers are the chipset you want and the easiest way to guarantee getting one is to buy the Resident Evil special as Major Nelson has stated that they are ALL jaspers. There are others in the wild and the way to tell is the voltage they draw - 11.2v I think, but I'd check that.

No elites come with transfer cables, borrow one from me or Dimrill, but order one anyway as they change hands on eBay for about £25 and you can sell it.

Do tell me why you'd expect to get one? The Elite is the only 360 I've owned. I have no need for a transfer cable with it.

Because quite a few people 'upgraded' from a Premium or Core 360 to an Elite? That's what I did so I'd get bigger harddrive gubbins, HDMI and allegedly quieter operation. Some may also have done this for the change in colour, though I personally think the 360 looks shit in black.

Let me beat everyone else to this and say, right now: "Racist".

We should now have 6 pages of hand wringing over this, followed by a vote with a "Bullshit" "Not bullshit" and "Don't care" options, followed by another thread about the lack of proper votes.

Me? Figures? You seem to have me confused for someone who deals in facts as opposed to idle speculation!

All I'm saying is some people bought an Elite as an upgrade to their existing 360 and this that's a reason for bundling a transfer cable in the box. That's all I'm saying. Like.

Yeah 2. *Flicks the V*

It's a piece of cable and a DVD ffs, it would be easy to pack one in with ALL 360s. The Elite is supposed to be the bombdiggy and also the Upgrade model for a lot of people, so it should defo have one.

Not really it isn't, not as a business decision. Besides, call MS and they'll send you a free cable which you can sell on for about £25 on fleabay once you've used it once.

Hell, by the time I got mine I'd trasnfered pretty much all I wanted via mem card - all your game content I think you can simply redownload anyway if you transfer your profile onto a card and plug it into the new machine.

It's not an upgrade model for most of the unwashed out there; only for enthusiasts such as ourselves. The SKUs exist because they aim for different target markets. Most people who want a 120GB HDD will buy that if they want to upgrade their hard drive size, not buy a completely new 360.

As long as the 120GB HDD comes with a transfer cable, that's sufficient.

I'm not familiar with 360 chipsets but there's at least two or three things that sound wrong with the above statement :p

1) Things don't draw voltage, they are supplied with it. They draw current.
2) 11.2V isn't a voltage you'd find anywhere on a logic board.
3) even if it was, how are you going to tell without opening the xbox and measuring it?

In an effort to make this a slightly less irritating post I've googled it:

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread ... &t=1071795

There you go. It's the current rating on the sticker on the back. 12.1A = new coolness.

Not for me Myps. I wouldn't buy a standalone 120 HD when getting a 360 Elite with HDMI, a cooler chipset, 12 months more waranty AND the bigger HD is much better value for money.

All this putting of words in my mouth - I never said it would be a sound business practice for MS to shove the transfer cable in with the Elites, just saying it would've been nice. Quite handy and all that. Like Mr. Snappa, I just transferred all my tat with a memory card in the finish.

Sir Taxalot wrote:

To be fair, most PS3s don't even come with the ability to play PS2 games, but I get your point. And I'm not defending Sony either, the 60GB, backwards-compatible PS3 has all this media card reading gubbins but no ability to read Sony-branded PS2 memory cards. 'Tis a little daft. Still, the virtual memory card function of the PS3 is quite a nice touch and worth sacrificing the ability to use actual memory cards in my mind.

I own a PS3 because certain aspects of the console suit me better personally than the 360 does, but for most people there's little question the 360 is the better console. I'm certainly no Sony fanboy, back in the day I was a Sega fanatic, but unlike UK Resistance I've come to terms with Sega's demise and can face the reality that no amount of Sony-boycotting is likely to get Sega to launch the Dreamcast 2.

That posibly sounded like more forceful a question than I meant it to be.

Sony and Microsoft are both equally ghey.

But still (slightly) less so than Zardoz and Zio.

I've been thinking about getting an Elite recently yes. I think I mentioned the 'dotty screen' up close on the 360 (could have been the beginning of the end) so I figured if I connected via HDMI it would resolve the problem, plus I want a bigger HD anyway and quieter running would be nice too.

Toby bought a 60Gb Pro from Amazon last night and it's definitely a Jasper, we checked the voltage sticker on the back of the box. When the DVD isn't spinning, it's by a wide margin the quieter 360 I've heard running.

Zardoz, I would buy from a shop and insist on checking if it's a Jasper if I were you. If they won't let you fiddle with the box, go elsewhere.

To answer the first post, you won't get your console back, it'll be put at the bottom of the regut pile and you'll get one off the top of the pile.

The Halo 360 wasn't an Elite, was it?

Are we even sure that the Jasper is really that much of an improvement? It'd be funny* if we were all looking to get them, then they conked out after a year or so, anyway.

Some of them did. Possibly only the US ones, which would explain why myp didn't get one.

When you consider what it costs MS to handle the calls and post the cables out, it's quite surprising it's not cheaper to just bundle one in each console. The cost of the cable itself must be very small.

Are we even sure that the Jasper is really that much of an improvement? It'd be funny* if we were all looking to get them, then they conked out after a year or so, anyway.
RRoDs are almost always GPU failures, although they are caused by a number of things that can go wrong. Every 360 until the Jasper has the same GPU, with more or less elaborate heatsinks on it. We won't know for another year but the odds are the Jasper is going to be much more reliable in the field, I bet it underwent the QA that the original 360 design should have had.

I know firsthand that it's quieter.

The cost of the cable itself must be very small.

The Halo 360 was indeed a 20gb Premium.

Not only was the Halo 360 a boggo 20Gb model in an ugly colour, but if memory serves it was an older model than the then-newest 20Gb one too.
