In 2001, The Fast and the Furious, starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel was released.

Paul Walker reprised his role in 2003 in "2 Fast 2 Furious", a direct sequel to the first film.

Then in 2006, "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" came out, with an all new cast.

In April 2009, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker return in the 'interquel' "Fast & Furious", set between the 3rd and 4th film.

It's called "Car"eer resurrection.

I know I'll go and see it. Tokyo Drift wasn't bad (mainly because, I expect, it wasn't a F&F film until the very last moment, at which point they filmed a new ending).

I've only seen the first one, but I enjoyed it in a mindless kind of way.

After The Fast And The Furious, the sequel should have been The Faster And The Furiouser. Then the third one could have been The Fastest And The Furiouserest.

Now you'd be on to Absolutely And Indisputably The Fastest And The Most Furious In The World - Ever! Part II.

Not sure they ever cared to much for Acura-cy to be honest.

Although, given as this is a prequel, they should probably go with The Decently Speedy And The Mildly Miffed.

I know one is a list of cars being stolen to order. The other is.. I can't remeber. (I think it was a team of people stealing stuff in identitcal cars, and a cop joins them)

Does that mean that Top Gun and Airplane are similar because they have planes in?

I once worked with a guy that was seriously into these films and could recite the whole script pretty much.

He brought in camcorder footage of him at a 'cruise' and then racing his crappy audi with a ford ka around the burger king/halfords cap park in Guildford (and losing). It was, frankly, embarassing.

One of the best jokes we ever played was feigning interest and egging him on to talk about cars and secretly recording it, which somebody then sampled and overlayed onto a disco track.

They're equally funny, to be fair.

That bit where Tom Cruise has just tried and failed and start flying again after someone who shall remain unspoilered's come down with a case of The Poorlies? When Cruise squares up to his navigator despite the bloke being about two feet taller than him? Comedy gold.

See also: the whole volleyball scene. And every time Cruise and Val Kilmer are on screen together desperately trying to portry Deadly Rivalry but because they're both such terrible, terrible actors they actually look for all the world like they're flirting.

I love Top Gun.

MPGZ or it didn't happen

There is literally nothing* about it that I don't love. Brilliant flight scenes, unintentionally hilarious script, inept acting and a soundtrack that couldn't be more eighties if it were wearing legwarmers and a snood.

* - Other than the fact that the MiGs at the end are obviously F-5s. Bloody hell, even Flight Of The Intruder sprang for some MiG-21s. Bothers me even more than the big fight at the end of Independance Day when they're trying to shoot down an enemy that's a sodding mile wide with poxy little air-to-air missiles. Surely air-to-ground missiles or Bloody Big Bombs were the way forward?

Actually, I associate Fast and the Furious with Gone in 60 Seconds. They're both about cars, and they were both released around the same time, at the height of the MOD THE CARZ youth culture phenomena.

But GI60S isn't about modding at all. And it's not about Kool Kidz.

But it appeals to the MODZING type, because it's about rare and exotic cars.

Mmm. I'm not convinced that the folks that are big fans of extra swathes of brightly coloured plastic bodywork and led downlights would actually be that impressed by classic Shelbys.

The original gone in sixty seconds has one of the best (and possibly longest) car chases on film. The remake was shit.

Except that most of the cars you seeing being M0DZ0RR3D are complete shite. They're the antithesis of rare and exotic cars. The opposite end of the spectrum, if you will.

The first one is fucking EPIC and anyone who thinks differently is Mr WrongHead a lot. The second one was, frankly shit. Although the first one was Point Break (which is also awesome) with cars.

In fairness, the Japanese exotica on display in the first film do count as Exotica in Her Majesty's Country. And quite rightly so. As we've got better shit.

Well of course, I'm talking about the 'MODZING type' of this country. The ones who put airfix plastic kits on their 1.2 litre Vauxhall Novas.

Oh, yeah, them, they are wankers. I like cars with flames painted up the sides, me.

I haven't seen the sequels, but I think the first one is perfects. Which is not to say it's a great film, but it aims at being a dumb watchable b-movie and hits the target perfectly. See also: Pitch Black, The Transporter, Crank.

Why has no-one made Statham And Diesel Kick Each Other While Things Explode yet? It writes itself.

Round these parts there used to be a guy with an unconverted split-screened Volkswagen van with matt black paint, whitewalled tyres and dark blue flame outlines up the sides. It was a work of art and as far as I can remember won a fair few shows. I'll see if I can find a photo.

It would certainly be a contender for Mad Max 2's crown of least dialogue in a film, but really, you should be banned from the internet for being both wrong and more wrong. Putting those two in a film would be beer battered crap made shitter only by throwing in Vinnie Jones as well for forest like proportions of woodenness, and I suppose, "hardness".

Everything I needed to know in life, I learned from The Fast And The Furious.
