You played through most of the campaign though. On the hospital roof Runcle and I died on the first attempt (Tank belted off AGAIN for me) on the second go Runcle died and I ran like pansy to the Chopper to make sure I nabbed my 15gaymerpounds.

Actually we also managed to get Runcle the 'kill a tank and take no damage' achievement. Which I already had :metul:

There are four episodes that take roughly 1 hour each to play through.

On the higher difficulty levels I can see them taking a lot longer.

Yes. The perceived lack of content is a bit of a red herring though. Really what you are playing is a dynamic tactical situation, which is generated by the Director for you. The level itself is almost window dressing. It's not "oh, look, it's the hospital lobby again", it's "oh, the lobby is ahead... there's a lot of zombies about... can I run for it this game?" and then it's "oh, the lobby is ahead... no zombies about... is there a hunter or smoker waiting to take out a straggler?"

Gametrailers (here) have a very brief look at the DLC (at 18:40 in the video). They confirm that the last two campaigns will be available for versus, and state that Survivor mode will indeed feature a team of humans setting points scores by suriviving as long as possible against regenerating hordes of zombies. Sounds very similar to Horde mode in Gears2.

By the same token I should probably stay away from the guns, I think a couple of times I emptied and entire clip into someone before noticing the name floating above their head.

Any tips on killing Witches with one shot?

Is it just simply a case of sneaking up behind with a shotty?

Yup - get the autoshotty and unload in her face*. This'll get you the 'no-one harmed by the witch' achieve too.

The crownd achievement is for single-shot killing her though.

I've seen Dimrill do it with a shotgun to the face. I've failed with a sniper rifle to the back of the head though.

Autoshotty is more powerful. Put it on easy, obv.
I'd imagine you can do it with a rifle on easy, but bugger playing the level with a rifle.

I did it be accident, so I'm not entirely sure how. I'm trying to help my girlfriend get it now, too.

Stick it on easy, turn your torch off, and sneak up to the witch with an auto-shotgun. Aim upwards, and disturb her. When she stands up, unleash hell at just above her head. The spread should kill her in one go, hopefully.

The thing about the witch is she's immune to damage until she stands up, or something. I tried many-a-time with the hunting rifle from a distance before getting fed up and looking at a guide.

Shotgun is best, and the only way I know of to get the achievement. I don't think the assault rifle does enough damage on a single bullet to lop off her head.

That's silly. They really go out of their way to make the hunting rifle pointless, don't they?

I can think of about three places where it's really handy. I imagine if we were actually any good as a team, you could have someone up at a high point picking off zombies at will, while being protected through the tunnelly bits by their teammates.

I suspect this is the key. One guy with a shotgun doing crowd control, one guy with an assault rifle for mid-range, one guy with the hunting rifle for long-range. Fourth guy has either a shotgun or an assault rifle, depending on which map you are on.

On the harder difficulties, probably, aye. There's no point on the easier ones, as anything in the distance is hardly enough of a threat to warrant having someone with a rifle especially for.

When each infected do 10 damage per swing, I can see the rifle as a pretty handy thing to have on one team-member though.

Every single shotgun pellet has to hit the witch's head to take her out, if one hits her arm, no go. When she's down, her arms are in the way, you have to do it as she's standing up.

We had two games of versus and twas awesome.

I don't think I did too badly for my first time.

Punting who ever was Louis off the building in the final to No Mercy was super smashing great.

Yeah that was me, I take it you were the tank then! :P

Was pretty fun, but as discussed its harder for the survivors as we hardly made it to any safehouses.

I'll see if I can keep hold of it off my housemate for a bit longer so I can play with you guys again :)

Yeah, it did seem more brutal. On the other hand, we played a game immediately after the patch and it didn't seem quite as brutal... I dunno.

There were (of course) some great moments last night. In the first (or second?) chapter of No Mercy, with the survivor team using huge rush tactics, Sir Morte fell behind. I was lurking in the parking garage as a smoker. He dropped through the hole by the escalators and I grabbed him and dragged him back into the tunnel. At the same time, I think someone else on my team managed to boomer-vom on at least one or two of the three survivors that are up ahead. By time time someone had fought back to free Morte, we had a hunter in place to pounce them. All told, that little jaunt ended up costing Sir Morte and someone else over half their health each.

Less good was, as the tank, taking a swipe at a smoker-entangled survivor, only to kill the smoker and watch the survivor leg it! Followed by the exact same thing happening again a few rounds later but with me being the smoker!

Versus mode is not supposed to be balanced in an individual round. The dev team tried to balance it, (back when versus was the main mode) but eventually decided they couldn't and made it so the teams swapped instead.

Its always good when a plan comes together.
I did enjoy being a hunter and jumping off one of the roofs (Where the car with the alarm is) and pouncing on runcle I think it was.
It's usually best Ive found if you vomit on 3 of the survivors and get a smoker to drag the other one off, that way the survivors cant get to them until its too late.

True. But last night, we played two full acts -- so 20 chapters in total -- and the survivors only made it through 4 (I think) times, whereas previously that was more like 10 or so. Either we've all gotten better at being Infected or the patch has jigged things a little.

Yeah. When approaching a tight group of survivors, I think the best thing to do is for one hunter to pounce, flooring a survivor and staggering the other three. Immediately, the boomer tries to tag as many people as possible with vomit, then any other smoker/hunter infected target whoever is still standing and not vommed on.

Obviously you don't always get hunter/hunter/smoker/boomer, although that does seem to be the games preferred choice. At one point last night we had three hunters!

Yeah but most of the time it is hunter hunter boom smoke,
Was quite annoying because on the farmhouse bit I kept becoming a boomer and I couldnt find any way into the house apart from the front door then up the stairs, but dimrill was just crouched ontop of the stairs picking off everything that got in his way! :(
Dont think it helped that I hadnt played that campaign before either.

There are glowing yellow handholdy bits on the outside of the house, so you can come in through the upper storey windows.

That was a perfect display. Everyone rushed off, leaving Morte behind to be grabbed. When they eventually noticed, Dimrill ran back on his own to save Morte, only to run into my waiting hunter. The remaining two standing survivors then got vommed on, meaning that Morte and Dimrill were shredded by the time they got back to perform a rescue. Brilliant.
