Google Latitude is an app for your phone that uses GPS and phone masts to define your location, then uploads it to a map that tells your friends where you are, all the time.

I've signed up, and it works well. I'm not too bothered about people knowing where I am (and I can always turn it off if I need to sneak about), and I can see where it could come in handy.

Is it a step too close to Big Brother-dom, though?

As with all these things, it depends on consent. If you are happy to let us track you, then no. If the device tracks you without your consent, then yes.

Excellently, you can set it manually to 'I am here', and bugger off somewhere else entirely :)

I installed it on my work's Blackberry just to mess about with. Seems nice enough but I'll probably never use it again. I might as well set my location to my house and leave it like that - 'Devilman is at home. Again.'

I'll have to look around for other stuff to install on the Blackberry though as it seems a shame to use it just for work. :)

I can't see how it would work on an iPhone, what with background apps being blocked. Might be worth 59p to find out. Why isn't it free? It is for everyone else.

I don't think so - Google say it isn't out for the iPhone yet.
