Briefly, Tessa Jowell wants women to be able to participate in jsut as many sports as the men do, come 2012.

Quote:
In Olympic track cycling men are allowed to compete in seven events, while women can enter just three.

is an example, along with the lack of Women's heavyweight wrestling, and women's boxing.

However, maybe the flaw in the plan is that adding in the extra events will cause problems, as maybe there jsut aren't sufficient competitors to allow a meaningful competitive field to participate.

Also, I seem to remember the broohaha that ensued when women's boxing rose to prominence through Laila Ali, so that coulod be something worth avoiding.

We don't have the power to. We have the right to vote for someone else to hire incompetent lunatics on our behalf. That's democracy!

When I read it, I thought that this was the biggest load of cock I've seen in a long time. I agree with her, in principle. In principle I think I should have a lapdancing club in my flat. However, the most basic point that blocks it is made in the article, that olympic sports can only be changed 7 years in advance during the bid process. So it can't work. So it's just a lot of noise by someone who wants to be in the papers for a different reason to her last announcement of explaining why the cost budget has gone up again.

She's an MP! Would you trust her to do this?

Positioning herself for the post-Brown leadership contest?

'But look at how pro-equality I am, wimmin'.

(Assuming there are still people in the Labour Party by then, of course)
