My Mum has ordered one of those BT Hub thingys and has now decided she would like a laptop. She would like a 17 inch screen and weight is not an issue as she will only be using it at home.

I have been looking but there are so many different types with very similar and confusing specs. So if anyone could recommend a laptop in the £350 - £500 it would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Windows, I assume? Acer and Dell have always done well for me.
But I've said it every time and I'll say it again - could she not have a desktop instead? You get a fuck-load more PC for your cash.

When Atari designed the Stacy (the portable ST) the idea was that it would run from about 12 C cells in the case. Problem was that they found the batteries lasted about 5 minutes before they wore out!

Their solution? Well being Atari they just released the machine with a glued up battery compartment and made it mains only.

Well she already has a Desktop but this is in the attic conversion. She wants a laptop for when she is in the lounge, kitchen or garden apparently.

She is leaning towards a pink dell. I had a look at the specs and it seems fast enough for her needs so problem solved.
