When you sign up to the rather lovely Goozex (or here if you are nasty and don't want to use my referral link) you get 100 free points, which is enough to get Dawn of War delivered to your house for nothing!

Then you can come and play Dawn of War with the PC people - even if it's not your "thing", it's worth a shot for free, right?

People that already have DoW - fancy some gaming tonight?

I will also be playing poker tonight.

How decent will my PC have to be to run this game, as it is quite old?

I might give it a go. Were I to purchase this from Steam instead of Goose Sex, how much would it be (out of interest)?

I got the Dark Avatar expansion for £2.70 at the weekend, but that offer's over and I think having it standalone means I can only play as two of the races online.

Yes, but then the torrent came with the expansions and a set of CD key generators so I didn't use it. I did get it installed on my last laptop, but it isn't on the one I'm using now. I will sort it out.

'tis an RTS, albeit it a very good one where turtling is tricky.

I'm up for playing tonight. Let us know when Grim... Nine 'till eleven is the best round-about for me, I reckon.

I delelted the UNIX partition and now it won't boot. I've got a boot cd ready to burn, but haven't yet, for various reasons.

EDIT: Oh, and is it still the 1.41 patch?

Ahh, excellent, be just a couple of minutes - sorry!

Er, almost finished patching - ETA 21:45.

Fighting to get in, nearly there. BTW, I love how Dawn of War forces you to watch its admittedly spiffy intro each patch you install. Grrr.

Fun gaming. Astonishingly, I won the first match, but then Grim... beat me down comprehensively in the second. Then we teamed up for two comp stomps. Simple honest pleasures. :)

I was a dumb mother fucker in the first game, and got suitably punished.
The DoW2 Multiplayer Beta is out on Steam, if you fancy a crack at that one night?

Hmm, depends on the specs. My compy is a 2500XP, 2 Gig ram, 7600GS. I can run Company of Heroes on it though. Could you dig up the specs and post 'em here? I'd like a go if it'll run.

Hmm, tricky - it was quite hard choosing from all those search results ;)

Quote:
Minimum Requirements
* Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista SP1
* P4 3.2 GHz (single core) or any Dual Core processor
* 1 GB RAM (XP), 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
* A 128MB Video Card (Shader Model 3) - Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT / ATI X1600, or equivalent
* 5.5 GB of Hard Drive space

Recommended
* Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista SP1
* AMD Athlon 64?2 4400+ or any Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2 GB RAM (XP and Vista)
* A 256MB Video Card (Shader Model 3) - Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900, or equivalent
* 5.5 GB of Hard Drive space

Ignore the drive space, that's for the game, not the demo. I had a go this morning and got firmly creamed, but it was alright. It's very different though - no base building - everything comes from your HQ. Tyranids look awesome. Cover is handled by little dots like CoH, and there is a choice of heroes.

Sounds good Grim... but it looks like I don't have the computer-chops to play this one. Shame, 'cos I saw some Eurogamer multiplayer footage and it looked excellent fun. :'(

Hmm - seems like a lot for such an old game, but it's still good value. You could just yarr DoW too, of course (caution: I have no idea if a generated CD-key will work online).

Question - will I need to install the original DoW to indulge in multiplayer in-the-far-future-there-is-only-shootery? I've currently just got Soulstorm installed (with the codes to allow me to play the other factions, obv).

Seems so:
Quote:
With both DC and SS they have made it so you don't need anything else to play the game BUT
In skirmish and campaign modes you get all the races
In ANY multiplayer mode you only get the race that are in the games you own.
DoW = SM, Chaos, Eldar and Orks.
WA = IG
DC = Tau, Necron
SS = SoB, DE
So if you only own DoW and SS you only get those 6 races for multiplayer (but can still use em all in singleplayer)
