I can't imagine someone would do it for notoriety. I can only thitnk that he has a massive psychological disorder, whether permananent or bought on by some event to have gone so completely mad to have done something like this.

I feel really quite enraged and almost in tears thinking about this. Probably due to having a new baby. If it was fame he was after, I can think of a few ways I'd like to make him famous.

RANG the hospital, not "Shit, she can't walk anymore and hasn't eaten for a week or so, we better get her to A&E pronto!!" See also: American vegan couple who gave their baby rice milk as they didn't believe in letting their baby have breast milk as that wasn't a vegan diet. Baby died of malnutrition.

It's a very interesting problem and one of the reasons I don't go for the full-on libertarian get-the-state-out-of-my-life approach. If it were a competent adult, they are clearly deciding for good or ill to starve and bully for them. I just don't know where the line between allowing people to bring up children as they wish and interfering to stop them doing that actually exists.

My uncle's a veggie and his wife is a vegan. They had a baby last year and decided that mother and baby should both be veggie too. I was quite pleased.

It'll be interesting to see if the parents are charged.

Some beer is filtered through the bladder of a sturgeon, but there are plenty of vegetarian/vegan beers out there, these days.

It's actually a lot easier to not eat meat now than it's ever been. Even the vegan cheese isn't too bad anymore (when I was vegan it was horrible).

Christ, if you're gonna be a vegan, why bother with cheese? Fake meat for veggies mystifies me also.

People become vegetarian/vegan for different reasons. Some people for the ethics and some for health or dietary reasons (some weirdos don't actually like the taste of meat).

Those who can't eat dairy—or couldn't; I'm currently experimenting and have had no adverse reactions—or don't want to because they believe it's wrong (dairy farming is actually a lot more inhumane than cattle farming) but still like the taste of it, well, at least they've got alternatives.
