Here is a semi intetresting article on passwords used for things on computers.

Quote:
16% of passwords matched a person's first name.

Quote:
14% of passwords were patterns on the keyboard

Quote:
4% are variations of the word "password"

And so on. Some of the commentary made me smile.

"1234? That's like an idiot's luggage combination!"

The default password I use for sites where my account being hacked would be an inconvenience not a disaster is in the top 20.

Whoops.

"In the top 20" is a good password though.

I left the room while my girlfriend activated her debit card for verification online yesterday, entering several bits of information and then choosing a password for the future.

She wrote the password down and, not only did she leave it right on my desk, she used a password that would be staggeringly easy to guess if you knew her name :(

Must teach her.

Top tip: if you register with anything council-related that requires a password, use one you don't use for anything else. Unless you want people like me to have potential access to your email every time you visit the library.

I doubt anyone would be able to guess mine in a million years as they are fucking weird and nothing to do with anything in particular.

That's not a challenge btw :P

If anyone wants me to check if any of their passwords are safe or not, just post them in this thread, and I will let you know.
