I need one. However I don't know whether to get a scanner or an all in one.
So I'm relying on some excellent info.

I have about 40 to spend, I don't want mustek because I used to sell them and I have seen how shit their psus are.

Was thinking about going for a HP. I know their inks are assrape, but I also know of a decent place that sells decent compatibles.

However, I have no experience with their scanners..

Usage is simple. I need to scan in artwork, brochures, plastic strips and other bits like that. No photos...

Help please.

Depending on the purpose I've often found that a decent digital camera can make a pretty good stand in for a scanner. If you already have one it's worth a go.

Go for a usb powered Canoscan, I've had mine for ages now and it's been flawless, takes up far less space than an all in one and now power supply to contend with.

Unless of course you need the print facility.

I did see an epson all in one for 3000p in Staples. Separate inks on the printer bit too.

Camera doesnt work.. Already tried it :D

Problem is the images arent that good to begin with, so they need to be scanned at their original DPI and then squashed down to size with anti alias on..

Ideally I would love an epson perfection as I know they're the tits, but finance won't stretch that far and I only need it for like 10 scans then it'll be redundant for a while.

If it's only for 10 scans, can't you go to a Kinko's or whatever and get them to do it for you?

Mainly because of the location I live in.

Remote is an overstatement.

Can't you email it to someone and get them to do it?

Yes, do that. Plus they are LED with no mirrors and crap, so they are about 1.5cm thick which makes storing it for the rest of the year when you're not using it a lot easier.

All-in-one jobs usually do everything badly, and when one bit breaks you have to throw the whole lot away. So get separate things.

My canoscan cost about 25 quid off ebay, two years ago.
