He chatted about it on his show yesterday - reckoned he could do with losing a stone and a half, but that sounds a bit conservative now I've seen the picture! Still, he was good enough to thank them and laugh about it.

He appears to have a whole pie in his mouth, sideways.

I'd heard it anecdotally over a year ago that he'd piled it on and looked so ill and huge that all the pictures on the BBC site dated from 4-5 years ago! My source says that it kicked off when he quit the fags, but surely not to that extent?

So presumably it's taken the fact his picture has been in the paper to make him admit he needs to lose the weight. Or perhaps there is a genuine health problem he doesn't want to disclose?

I'm not having a pop at our larger friends by the way, but he blatantly looks really unwell.
