Right, please can someone attempt a rewrite of Ian Bank's post modern gothic horror "The Wasp Factory" in the style of a Victorian novel and email it me, so I can win a bet. Thanks. I said it could be done, and any book could be rewritten in any style. The Mrs disagrees as I've not gone done English or writings or something.

Do it yourself. Just put, 'oh, Mr Darcy' in it a few times.

*Bzzzzt!* Fail! Pride and Prejudice was published in 1813, and was therefore Georgian.

A piffling irrelevancy—Jane Austen is seen as a Victorian style of writing.

Well, she blooming well shouldn't be - she died before Queen Victoria was even born, let alone became Queen. It's like calling Tennyson a 20th Century writer, or George Orwell "one of the finest writers of the 1960's". Bah! I say.

It's a style thing, rather than historical accuracies, I believe. I'm no expert, though.

Not by me or anyone else I know. Er, who I've talked about Jane Austen with. She's so obviously pre-Victorian that it hurts.

Well just add it to the ever-growing list of things I'm wrong about, then.

To be fair, I'd be moderately proud of being wrong about that.

It has been a long time since I read TWF, but didn't the premise rely on some significant drugs which probably weren't around in the Victorian era?

I guess a Victorian equivalent for hormone therapy would be feeding her some cow jizz.
