Ok, so I have been given a PSP (well, lent, but for like...forever) and I have said I would install custom firmware on it too. I'm gonna order a pandora battery at some point, but in the meantime would like to play my copy of R-Type Tactics.
When I turn the PSP on, it says: I am at firmware v. 3.73 To continue you need to be at v. 4.05
If I upgrade to 4.05, am I right in thinking that I will still be able to put a custom firmware on it with a pandora battery? It won't make it more complicated/not possible?
Also, anyone got a link to a good guide to the whole custom firmware procedure? It is a launch Japanese PSP phat, if that matters.

It will make it more complicated if you upgrade to that firmware. Think mine had that on when I got it, and downgrading was a proper ballache. I managed it in the end, though. Just needed the right downgrading software. Unfortunately, I've lost the software and can't remember its name so I can't help you there! This also goes for my mate's PSP which is sat in my wardrobe waiting to be downgraded.

Thanks, I've got custom firmware installed now. Am I right in thinking I can just update from network?
Also, what neat things can I do, and how do I do the overclocking thing?

I dunno about update from network, guy. If the firmware you have runs a recent game, you needn't bother updating. I think mine's 3.80 at the moment and it does everything I want it to, including the PS3-TV-hookup thing I don't understand the need for.
