Games TIM(!) would have you believe the latter in their history of God sim gaming feature this month. Personally, no way is it a god sim. You can't physically alter the world in which the story takes place, and your powers don't appear to be unlimited in any Godlike way. It smacks to me more of a desperate grab at stuffing a recent game in the feature that sprogs could identify with. What was the last true God sim?

I'm not entirely sure what separates a game like Civ from a god sim - you have popularity with citizens instead of worshippers, you can't magically reshape the land, but you can send people out to do it for you. You can't cast thunderbolts, I guess.

Well if Sim City can be classed as one, I can't see why Civ shouldn't. Good point. What about The Sims? Are they God games?

I dont know I kind of guess your controlling someones entire life which has its similarities but that could account for most games. I guess most games are god sims in that you control a lifeform of sorts but there all pretty much linear in nature so you really havent that much control over them.

It's definitely an RPG... GamesTiM just have their wires crossed because Molyneux is known for 'creating' the 'genre'.

Fable 2 is an RPG to its bones. It doesn't really do anything new, other than the rather annoying "X likes you with pink hair and likes you to wave your cock at him. Y would rather you had a tattoo and were wearing chaps".

It is incredibly charming and entertaining though.

I'd be more inclined to class Fables 1 & 2 as Action/RPG's (of a rather rubbishy nature, although I appear to be firmly in the minority on that one) rather than true, straight-up RPG's. They're certainly not god sims, that's for sure.
