Looks like it could be fun.

The Gene Geenie as Giles was pretty good, shame about the accent tho...

Guessing it is going to be primeval but with demons.

Watch the first episode, not too bad. Now all the introductions are done... can see if there is a decent plot next week.

Been hoping for better, but turned out to be pretty bog standard. Acting OK and of course Phil Glenisters accent is entirely hideous though. Hopefully it'll pick up next week, but not holding out for it.

Wasn't intended to be cryptic, I've changed the subtitle to make it clearer.

Thanks guys - dear god - it's textbook, isn't it?

And if this kid is Van Helsing's descendant, is Mina Harker Stoker's Mina, by some contrived bollocks, or another character called the same thing? I'll bet being ITV the nature of the character is far more Lucy Westenra in manner than Mina anyway.

I've caught up with this now, and it's pretty rough, eh?

I quite liked the set up in ep 2 (the child-snatching demon thing), but then there was all that bollocks with the "Sword of Justice" (or whatever it was they kept prattling on about).

I seem to be in a minority here and elsewhere, since I thought Demons was perfectly enjoyable. Most people seem to be making Buffy comparisons, yet cunningly forgetting how iffy Buffy was initially and how dreadful it got towards the end. Demons is no classic, but it's so far been an hour and a half of decent enough entertainment for my 2p.

Not bad apart from the accent which is absolute dog shit. Who's idea was that? Get a Yank or let him speak in his own voice ffs.

So, three episodes in and to be honest I think that's my lot. It's perhaps not completely awful, but there's nothing which is hooking me, plus there's the crap stuff like the rubbish accent and that whiny Ruby bird.

not seen episode 3 yet, and I don't really feel compelled to do so. Now, if I'd have missed Dr Who, I would have made sure I watched it on the sunday. This says something.

I'd agree that Buffy wasn't as good to start with, but "iffy" is stretching it. I watched the first episode expecting to be underwhelmed (having seen the decidedly meh film) and instead was totally hooked.

It did completely fall off a cliff in the last two seasons, though.

Angel is better than buffy.

It has a wonderful Charisma.

I think the first series of Buffy is OK, but not a classic, and the characters didn't really gel for maybe half the series. For me, things really kicked into gear with season 2, which lasted until maybe half-way through season 4. There was a wee drop for the remainder, some classic and dodgy bits in 5, some utter shit in 6 (not least Buffy's tedious precarious financial situation), and half a great and half a shite season in 7. FWIW, the comic aren't that wonderful either.

Angel... well, I always preferred that series, but that went off the boil big-time at the end of series 3 with the Pylea garbage, and the entire Jasmine arc later on was just toe-curlingly awful—a read nadir for the series. It kind of recovered for the end, despite an obvious need to wrap the thing up when the show got cancelled.

As for Luke, episode 3 was rubbish after what I thought was a promising episode 2. And there are too many guns.

Good summary! Most TV series go through bad bits though, Buffy is no exception.
Angel, when it's good, is very good indeed and anyone who hasn't watched the whole thing should do so. I didn't really mind the Pylea stuff too much either, it was a fun diversion into Xena world for a while :D

I quite liked Pylea, too ("dance the dance of shame!"). I realise that's sick and wrong, but there you go.

The Angel's son / Jasmine stuff pissed me off to the point that I've never actually watched S5.

Season 5's pretty good, if rather episodic, but suffers from them setting up arcs and then having to dump them and wrap up the series. The most harrowing example (from a character's point of view) is
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Fred's soul being consumed when Illyria uses her body

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Fred and Illyria 'battling' for control and then eventually being separated

By the way, only view those spoilers if you've seen season 5 of Angel or don't care about knowing events during the final few episodes.

Season 5 is also Smile Time! if I'm not getting too thoroughly confused. 4 was terrible, as was 6 (I think? Ages since I've had the boxes out) of Buffy. It's quite obvious in hindsight how they were shifted around to give Captain Mal and Zoe some work because Firefly was taking so long hitting production.

Angel's son would've got stabbed in the face every single second of every single episode if I'd had my way.

I haven't watched any of Luke, and am not regretting the decision at all.

My understanding of Angel going screwy is that a lot of it was down to Charisma Carpenter and Whedon ending up at loggerheads and Carpenter getting pregnant during the filming of season 4. She was supposed to take the position Jasmine did. That entire arc was just utterly fucking awful, but series 5 (especially Smile Time) was surprisingly good and worth picking up for ten quid (or whatever little the box-set goes for these days).

I think some sort of wrestling match between Eliza Dushku and Amy Acker needs to be organised in order to determine once and for all which series is the best.
