People with long memories may remember that over on World of (Linda - ED) you kindly people (some of whom are now dead) reccomended some splendid Megadrive games to me. These included a splendid Pinball game, Micro Machines and Sensi.

In order to keep up with the latest gaming trends, it's probably time for another purchase. You people know what I like, good old traditional British style games.

So what should I buy?

Also, if anyone has any Dreamcast recommendations then that would be aces as well (I have Soul Calibre, Virtua Tennis and a the rest is a bag of shite).

Cheers.

Dreamcast - Shenmue & Shenmue 2. Thank you and good night.

Edit - Also they're set in the 80's, so they'll be heaven for you (assuming you lived in Japan in the 80's)

I've taken to only reading the start and end of posts to increase my efficiency.
It's a little hit and miss, but it mostly does the job.

I am forced to concede defeat.
This is probably for the best, as I'm sure Chinny will be checking in on this thread soon. With an axe.

Powerstone's quite a nice quicky punch about thing. CUS'd probably have a bit to say as his DC collection is hyowj.

That's if I had the list or could lay my hands on it.

We really need a list of excellence for each format. Could this be something we debate and the stick on the main site? Even to the point of compiling a list and the voting on it to come up with a top 10?

Thoughts?

That sounds like a sound idea you've just sounded off the board's soundboard.

Right, memory is shot, can't think of anything else.

Oh and for the Dreamcast, Toy Commander isn't bad. Imagine Micro Machines with missions.

Which made me think of ReVolt. Remote controlled car racing - it's excellent but brutally hard on later stages.

OK. How do we do this?

We could do one thread per machine but that could be messy.

Or we could do one thread per machine, but do one machine a week with the thread locked after that and a vote carried out while we do the next batch of nominations.

Mods, what would you prefer? Or can you think of something better?

cant see jet set radio, which I completed about 5 times. The magic didnt seem to be in the xbox version for me, it may have been the different controller and no QTE spray painting fun, and also the fact I was awesome in the original. Oh also get the best copy of crazy taxi while your at it. The first one.

I liked the sonics but there very marmite, one of them had a great neon grinding later levels but I forget which one.

Legacy of Kain : Soul Reaver was pretty good.

As was Metropolis Street Racer.

And Sega Rally 2, of course.

Oh, and Headhunter. I loved that.

All Dreamcast.

It had it's flaws, I'll give you. But for the time, it was pretty different to anything else. I still enjoyed it.

A good idea, as I'll need this for the PS2, soon.

Allow me to suggest some Megadrive games then...

Sonics 1 & 2. Some idiots claim Sonic 3 is the best, this is because they are idiots.
Streets of Rage 2. Vastly superior to the original and number 3 is overhyped gash. Much like I imagine Cheryl Cole must be.
Lotus Turbo Challenge - port of the Amiga Lotus 2. Not quite as good as the Amiga game, but not far off. I likes it.
The Chaos Engine - see above. (as in not a port of Lotus 2, but a port of an Amiga original where the Amiga original is a tiny tiny bit better)
Speedball 2 - see above the above. (as in not a port of... you get it)
Zombies Ate My Neighbours - bit like Chaos Engine but very tongue-in-cheek.
Biohazard Battle - Slightly bizarre R-Type clone and awesome.
Truxton - underrated vertical shooter.
Ghouls & Ghosts - really, really bloody hard. But fun.

That'll dos you for now. None of the above should be in any way hard to get hold of.

Also: mod your Megadrive to play games in 60Hz - there's a few guides online and it's an absolute doddle of a mod to perform.

Might be difficult to limit it to just 10. Maybe a top five for each genre maybe?

I think that the lists idea is great.. but quite a big job!

I'll throw my hat in and say that Headhunter was ace and if you like shoot em ups, then Under Defeat is aceness!

If you're looking for typically English titles, then I'm afraid you're out of luck on the Dreamcast. It's Japanese goodness all the way!!

I liked these a lot. Sega, man. That was quite the company.

My fave DC games were:

Rez (I'd imagine this is slightly moot in the light of HD)
MSR (never played any Gotham, but this ruled my second year)
Bangai-O (insanity and genius)

Oh, and:
