Depends how good natured they are. I shall attempt to make one from a toilet roll and mount it on Smudge.

Well considering moments after I'd taken that photo, she rampaged off the the left and trampled3 squads of chaos marines and a terminator squad.. quite a lot.

Some filthy Death Guard. Another 6 I took pictures of, but the photos came out worse than these did, so I'll try again in daylight.

Right - step by step instructions, please.

Do you favour the "dark basecoat, build up the lighter colours on top" or the "mid coat, wash, highlight" approach?

On them I basecoated black first, then drybrushed the hell out of them with ChakaKhan Green. After that I drybrushed again with Camo Green then gave it a wash of Badab Black followed by Devlan Mud. Then drybrushed again with the Camo Green. painted the metal parts with Tin Bitz, and lightly drybrushed with a 50/50 mix of chaos black and boltgun metal. Skulls, bones and horns were painted Vomit brown, then 50/50 bleached bone/vomit brown, then bleached bone, washed with Ogryn Flesh. Picked out bits and dabs with Rotting Flesh on the armour, and pure Boltgun metal on the metal bits. The mutated bits and flesh wounds were scab red up to blood red. Base was Bestial Brown, highlighted with Dark Angels green, then Goblin Green. Rocks were simply shadow grey, highlighted with fortress grey.

I think the drybrushing works well on the Nurgle stuff because they've never actually painted their armour. The original legion were unpainted, and they've just... mouldered over the centuries.

OK - first run drybrushing - they're lying about it being "drybrushing", right? I have a Marine codex which is suggesting that in order to paint an Ultramarines Rhino in blue, you paint it black then "drybrush it blue". A whole Rhino, to get the base colour.

I think it gives a nicer buildup of paint, so yeah sounds plausible. The beauty of drybrushing on several layers of paint, but changing the mix, means you can have some nice gradient shadow effects going on that washes can't really achieve on their own.

but, but, but drybrushing. How can I make a flat panel blue by doing that? Maybe I need to experiment, but I've always only used drybrushing for quick and easy highlighting. If I'm doing serious gradient colours (like on an ogryn's arms, say), I'll blend it.

How much paint do you have on the brush for the "basecoat" drybrush, then? Or is it a case of scrubbing the brush until it looks like a chimney sweep?

I don't put that much pressure on my brushes to flatten them. I've got a few really nice soft ones for drybrushing that've stuck with most of the abuse I've thrown at the so far. With the flat panels of a rhino, you'd simply brush on a smaller and smaller area to achieve the gradient.

but but but it doesn't pick up on flats, it only picks up on edges, surely?

Or have I been doing this wrong all my life?

Yes, I have, haven't I.

I just use the tip of the brush, so a flat surface would pick it up too.

I've got loads of GW stuff left in the top cupboard above my wardrobe back at my parents' house. Lots and lots of Eldar, Tyranids, and some pretty old figures that I picked up about 18 years ago. I also have many many editions of White Dwarf, some going back to the birth of Dark Future and beyond (although some have been butchered: pages missing, pictures cut out and so on).

I have no need for any of this stuff as my brief dalliance with GW was focussed purely around my love of the little figures and reading about them, rather than actually playing any games. The majority of them are quite badly painted.

What do you reckon is the best means to offload the lot. Ebay, car boot sale, advert in some GW forum, or something?

I suppose I should take a complete inventory and get photos of the more interesting stuff.

You could say "Dimrill, do you want to buy any of this stuff?" and I'd probably go "maybe" then you could totally gets some pictures together and then we could come to some agreement on price and then make money love.

Next time I visit the folks I'll sort it all out. From memory, I don't think I've got any Chaos stuff, but there could be one or two surprises up there.

I swapped a load of large vehicles with a friend of mine in my late teens, and got a 4x4 radio control car in return.

I'll update when I've got a list and some pics. Could be a few weeks.

From doing a shufty around eBay, old WD issues don't seem to go for much, if at all. I'd still be interested in taking them off your hands though.

Not very Nurgly for Nurgle. Excellent paint skills though. The green light effect is very nice, might try something similar with my Tau sensors/eyes :nerd:

From what I can make out it's ALL Tau kits. For instance the head is the torso of a Stealth Suit.
