Next month they are going to dig up the body of Tommy Cooper and let the controller of BBC One sodomize him live on TV. You heard it here first!

There's no reason why a new version of Perrin should not be any good. They're not doing a remake of the Rossiter version to my knowledge, just a new series based on the same story. Clunes is definitely a great choice for the role; look at any of his scenes set in his office in Men Behaving Badly, and add fifteen years of life further beating him down.

Absolutely agreed, actually. Remakes don't necessarily have to be bad. Granted I can't think of any good examples (except perhaps Survivors), but there's no reason it shouldn't work. Clunes is a very good comic actor, as well.

Also see Staggered, which features Clunes in several flights-of-fancy scenes.

Honestly, this could be great.

Dawn of the Dead was good, but in a different way.

They don't have to be bad, no. But this will be. Nobbs is a has-been and Nye's a jobber.

It'll be on BBC1 I bet. That's all you need to know.

So very much :this: .

For me, Reggie Perrin was basically flawless, and Rossiter, peerless in that role. Why remake (or whatever word you want to use) it? Hope it dies on its arse.

I agree with Mr Chris and Daniel - it could be great. It will be very different to the original series, but that was very different to the books.

Not sure about Nobbs being a has-been. Yes, the Legacy of Reginald Perrin was bad, but his books are still good. I think the problem was that removing the central character kind of removed the point of one person being driven mad by the world.

Totally disagree about Nye being "a jobber". At least I think I do - what does that even mean?

It means Hulk Hogan will pin him every night, shortly before he sucks off Pat Patterson.

I might watch him in that case.

I meant it in the non-carny sense. A bod who'll do whatever pays the rent. Not a bad thing in itself, but not something that'll attract me on its artistic/humorous merit.

That, and I hate Clunes. It's pretty much a match made in hell. Maybe I was a tad harsh on Nobbs (surely 'Saggs' would be a more relevant moniker at his age, no?), but he doesn't have it in him to make this good.

I wold love to be proved wrong though.
