Im sure if the list of posts you have were someone repeatedly calling you a c-u-n-t then you would have grounds for them being deleted. Not that I actually requested it, merely said feel free to delete my posts as Id already edited them out of my own accord.

Of course theoretically we now only have your own word for those contents... much like we did on some other place which has allowed a certain someone to claim they never existed and get away with it.

I do NOT like the erasing of history and this place (apparently used to) exist in a large proportion BECAUSE previous mods liked to do it an awful lot. Since the last election we've had users accounts edited without their knowledge after they disagreed with mods and a sharp rise in the forum being edited to the authority's world view. That's exactly the single thing this place should exist to NOT do.

Ok Dudley, we'll ask CG if he wants us to put his posts back. If he does, then we will.

I have no idea what that's about. I'm still for just moving posts in to a "hell hole" subforum so things are preserved for historical purposes. If people don't want to see it, they don't have to look there. While I'm fairly indifferent to this specific instance (I haven't read it), it's a slippery slope to making a perception things could be hidden, even accidentally, even in future.

But this is a "Pics of your Gaming Area" thread, if we want to have this debate again we could split these out?

No there isn't, we just move it to its own thread in the mod forum in case of accidents like a fat-fingered mod deletes the whole thread, for example.

Well, as I said, I'd prefer a historic account in a thread or subforum designated for that purpose so I could make my own mind up without muddying the main forum. The Mods don't seem willing to set that up though.

I saw it at the time, that's how I knew there was deleting, since there was no other indication of anything missing...

How about if a mod deletes something, they leave a reason behind.

Most people read that and think, ok fair enough, pretty dull, next thread.

Better but better still is to not delete. You don't want something on a forum, try "not posting it". The ONLY deletion should NSFW and spam.

The problem is that the only time we've removed things from the main forum has been when the original poster has not wanted them to be there, for whatever reason. Moving them to another visible thread would be pointless - the poster wants their posted comments removed.

If CG wants his returned to the thread, they will be, as myp said. Leaving them there with Lace's posts removed leaves it a rather one-sided mudslinging, though, hence removing them.

I'm with Duds on that one though. Edit your own posts, or think before you post. If you walk in to the pub and shout "YOU'RE ALL CUNTS AND I HATE YOU" and then ask the landlord to delete what you just said before anyone hears it, you still expect to get the shit beaten out of you.

But if you paint it on the wall of a pub, it'll get painted over, not left up so you can get the shit kicked out of you for it again a month later.

It'd be up long enough for most of the regulars of the pub to read it and form an opinion on it, and enough people to have seen it to allow for people asking about it after the fact to be sure they are being told what was on the wall due to having more opinions on it.

As it happens, the painting on the wall was covered over with white-wash after only a few people noticed it and now there are only biased sources available, and splitting the pub in to people who looked up in time and people who didn't. It causes rifts, for the sake of appeasing someone rash enough to paint silly things on walls.

No, he didn't. The situation was degenerating into an ugly slanging match quickly, so without any other mods being involved I slung the posts into the mod forum while everyone cooled off. It was no fucking overarching conspiracy, I hadn't planned on deleting any content, I had just put them out of the way for a few hours. Had I had chance, I would have considered with the other mods what to do after everyone cooled down: moved them back, put them in a ghetto subform, or left them out of harm's way. Of course, you didn't give anyone the chance to explain; you just waded in singing the same old "waa waaa mods doing stuff" song. Yes, how fucking dare I attempt to arrest a slanging match in mid-scrap before things escalated.

Sometimes I question whether this forum is worth the time and energy I invest in it. This is one of those times. I'm taking a break, see you all later.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, if there was a set policy of "We'll chuck stuff in a read only cool-off bin, with the original post edited to reflect that fact." I think there wouldn't be a problem.
