Why isn't there a hockey game on the DS?

I mean, it is the bloody most popular console on the planet. EA has made decent versions of it's 3d sporting titles for the ds in the last few years for the ds (fifa, madden), Hockey games are more 2d anyway. doesn't exient (easports dev) get hockey?

There is one childrens hockey game, backyard hockey, but evne ign gave it a four..

we want hockey games, even if some of us don't like the sport!

My guess would be because nobody cares about hockey outside of Canada and a handful of northern US states.

I know that's a harsh generalization, but I'm guessing it is why nobody has bothered to put the work into making a game.

sure but that would mean the smaller audiences of the ps3 wouldn't get a nhl 09, and the cube got new versions right until 07,wouldn't it?

not to forget the special elitserien and sm-liiga versions of the nhl games in the nordic countries, and the money in the KHL (russia, belarus, latvia)

further more,the hockey games have allways sold better than the sport itself in europe, because hockey on the console is rather fun

It was a generalization. Added to that, I'd have to guess that making a game on the DS involves a lot of work in making things run smoothly. Working for a PS3 or Xbox 360, you can probably just use the company's middleware to shovel out any old "FIFA with sticks on a white pitch" game.

Well, you asked why. I'm offering reasons.

on a bright side, i acquired rtl wintersports 2009 which is actually quite fun, with some innovative controls,like alternating speedskating feet..

I'm surprised they never ported/updated the old Megadrive/SNES NHL games- I'm not a fan of ice hockey, but they were excellent fun.

You could always try a NES emulator and play Blades of Steel, or NHL 2002 for the GBA.....

went for the gba option, as i have now a ezflash3-1 to use my ds card for gba games as well.,there are even two options: nhl hitz is a bit like blades of steel and nhl 2002 which is quite like the megadrive versions, but seems harder to control to me (although going back to the md version it seems that the series just got easier over the years)

94! The goalies were beefed up so that at least you couldn't 'pass' the puck under the them as my brother used to do all the time in 93.

Yup, and the blood. I didn't miss the fighting as I've always gone with the Bruins and Glen Wesley would start several fights a match. At least he kicked arse in them I suppose.
