They're busy doing a tie-in for the relaunch of the Cristal Maze (see what I did there)

Ok, so you find a hut on the edge of a cliff that you want to get to. Next to the bottom of the cliff is a ladder. What do you do?

a) Use the ladder and climb up to the hut.
b) Search the surrounding hills for a hangglider and glide down to the hut
c) Search the surrounding hills for a path to the hut.
d) Find the developers and stab them in the face.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
It's not a. I don't think it's c, as they wouldn't have needed the ladder in the first place were that the case. I can't find a hangglider anywhere near, but it's probably the correct route. I'm going for d myself

I played this for many hours yesterday. It was fun. But I drove through the same checkpoint many times, and each time I HAD TO FUCKING SHOOT MEN.

Just stop it, yeah?

Upon my daily doormat inspection, there was no copy of Far Cry 2 adorning my mat. SBK-08 arrived, though, so I have no idea what the red card is for. Stay tuned...

Perhaps the red card is so you can prepare for what you'll see once you start playing the game?

Surprise, surprise. I asked for a replacement to be sent and they've just refunded me without explanation. I suspect they were already sold out when I ordered it on that Monday (it was the one with the exclusive steelbook).

Ooh - I forgot to mention. I have a photo on my phone with the code you enter in the game to add the four free HMV exclusive missions, if anyone is interested.

Does anyone know if these are interesting missions, or just ones of the "Go to X, kill Y" variety. I got the game from HMV so have the code, but probably can't be bothered to go back to it since completing the thing.

Don't worry, sweetcheeks; I'll wait until we've done that (and you've bought it) before starting the campaign. I just want to play Hordey goodness with bezzies.

The cheapest I could find GoW2 online is £27.99 at shopto.net; Game is doing the first one for £14.67 (out of stock normal version) or £14.99 (in stock Classics version).

Ooh, actually Gameplay is doing the normal version for £14.99 and have it in stock.

So is Far Cry 2 any good then? I still can't tell if we like it or not. Can we please have the offical BETEO position on it so I know whether to buy it or not? Fanx.

They're not Call of Duty 4, so I don't know. ;)

It's an over-the-shoulder third person shooter with the main focus on taking cover. I really enjoyed my first playthrough of the first one in co-op, and am currently embarking on my second one on the highest difficulty with Perkoise. From what I've heard it's not so much fun in single player.

There must be a demo on the marketplace.

I think it's a pretty even split down the middle, with me not having a clue thanks to Royal Mail's bombastic nincompoopery.

Overall, it can be frustrating, and is 'nearly there', but has some annoying features. These will either drive you into a fit of rage (Dimrill) or you'll enjoy the odd things like weapons degrading very quickly and jamming (me), as it makes it a little more challenging.

It is unfortunately let down by a horrific matchmaking system in multiplayer that makes playing with anything other than friends a tortuous experience.

I'd ay it's definitely worth a pop at a cheap price, but YMMV.

What the fuck does that mean anyway, YMMV? Your Mechanoid May Vary?

10 minute unskippable tedious jeep ride, 5 minute sicky sequence, 360 crash. Sigh.

If you're happy buying second-hand (third-hand, fourth-hand etc...) then apparently it's in Blockbuster's "5 for £25" range.

I've decided (after only the first couple of missions so far) that I like FC2. It seems fun, weapons seem to have real meat to them, and stuff blows up well.

It certainly does have its annoyances:

The respawning checkpoints, with psychic men.
The unskippable conversation. I have subtitles on - let me skip to the next sentence so I don't have to listen to you slowly drone on in a ridiculous accent about stuff I've already read.
Few vehicles - car, jeep, big jeep and boat seem to be the limit.
Having no idea what gun I'm carrying, so therefore no idea whether I want to replace it with this other gun on the floor.
The malaria is rubbish
The jamming is rubbish.

They don't stop it being entertaining though, for me.

Cool. I must say, I love the use of the map and GPS in-car, too. It's very cleverly done.

I played it for a bit today, and I quite like it. I say 'a bit' I really mean "Went to the first outpost and killed some lads" then it was dinner time.

I want to be playing it now, so it can't be bad. I've been thinking about how to do something all day. seeing as my 'Marine Assault' ended with my being rescued and whathischops blasting a shotgun at no one for a whil. It reminded me of the other Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 2.

This is £25 in Sainsbury's, according to some prices and £35 according to others. I liked the first half of the first one, then I was on an annoying level with monkeys and something was supposed to be happening to me, and I wnt and played summat else instead. Does this continue the story?

Fuck knows. You are in Africa and have to knobble some dude called the Jackal, thus freeing all the noble slaves from killing each other.

As far as I'm aware, it's a completely different game made by a different developer that just happens to use the Far Cry IP.

Second annoyance of the day - mission objectives that are mutually exclusive for no apparent reason.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The second mission for one of the factions involves going and tagging a pile of gold belonging to the king so the faction can go take it. Your mate rings up and says "go kill the king at this other place, and bring the signet ring back here to give to his son". So I go kill the king and get his ring, and on the way back I tag the gold. Cue phone call "Oh, you've tagged the gold, have you? Forget it, then". What the fuck? Where in your instructions did you mention that I couldn't do that?

Although now have dart gun, which is super-awesome. Need a bigger ammo load for it, mind.

Yeah, just ignore the original orders entirely if you want the subversion type achievement. Or do them the original way for speed.

But the dart gun is ace. Definitely worth getting the extra ammo thingy for it ASAP, as then you can pretty much dispense with the proper sniper rifles.
