Anyone else giving the person they love above any other (ie themselves) a treat this year?

I've just ordered a new PC, nothing spectacular, just a little more power, better graphics card, more ram, bigger HD.

This one, in fact. Plus some slight upgrades, (more case fans, a new monitor, slightly better processor.
http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/gamer_infinity_620/

I'm reliably informed that it will run Crysis... (on medium)

500 quid is the sweet spot for gaming rigs ATM. That's not a bad system at all, but I would have gone for a better video card (Rad 4850 or Nvid 9800GT/X) that way for about another 60 ish quid on what you paid there you could've ran Crysis on High(ish).

Mind you, please don't bench a system using Crysis like magazines do. Crysis is pretty darn craply coded in honesty, especially when you load up Warhead and realise that it can go to high on the very same system that couldn't run Crysis on medium, and, be better too.

If you want to see a stunning game running at a high res with a filthy FSAA setting then install Grid. Because to be quite honest with you Grid is the best looking game in the history of ever on a PC.

Or, install Fallout 3.. Anything but Crysis :D

To be honest, I'm not really massively into PC gaming, I just want something that a) is better that the pile of shite I'm currently using b) has an upgrade path and c) will run older PC games/ stuff like MMOs really well.

It was a choice between a whizzbang graphics card or a new monitor to replace the knackered one I'm using. At the moment, the monitor is easy choice. If I get into PC gaming, I can just bung a new graphics card in.

An enorm-o-telly for the front room, but in theory that's a present for everyone.

Very wise :) Graphics cards are really five and ten a penny now tbh. You just don't need to spend 400 quid on a good board anymore..

If you've never used dual cores before you're in for a real treat. Even now my 1.8ghz C2D (with an OC to 2.4ghz) is nice and fast.

Yeah, workable PCs are dirt cheap, even my work PC has a Geforce 8500GT now because they're so cheap it's just not worth buying anything lesser.

I bought myself 4 PS3 games and 2 Blu Ray movies from the Zavvi sale on Monday.

Also, I am giving very serious consideration to replacing my 32" 720p telly with a 1080p 40" one.

See, I keep thinking that, but so far I can only think of three reasons for doing such a thing - Test Drive Unlimited, Dead Rising and Forza 2. These are not compelling enough reasons for me so far.

Edit: Though I have rather missed Rez HD too, if I'm honest.

Crackdown, Earth Defence Force 2017, Fable II, Gears of War/2, Geometry Wars RE2, Halo 3, Omega Five and RACE Pro all disagree (they told me).

Also that. You must feel really lonely wanking off into your Blu-Ray drive. :(

Is this peer pressure stuff working?

Ironic, as most laptops give you third degree burns if you have them on your lap.

Yeah, this one never ever gets warm, let alone hot. And I have never heard the fan come on, though it does have one, I am quite fond of it.

On the MBP you can change how light-y up the keyboard is by pressing f keys, and it also has light sensors to bring them on when it's dark.

WOOO.
I was actually thinking of the 13" macbook, not the pro, but I need to check one out and see what the screen sizes are actually like in real life.
Oh if only there was a shop etc.

I like the little sleep light most. It just pulses contentedly when the laptop is having a kip, like a kind of little light-snore. :S :smug:

A girl who doesn't really like video games would be happy with Gears of War 2, yes?

The list of games Mrs. Rodders has really gotten into runs something like:

Dragon Quest VIII
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Animal Crossing
Viva Pinata
Endless Ocean
Resident Evil 4
World Of Goo

One of these things is not like the others.

He's just gone to no effort at all, there. I at least bought Ange Viva Pinata and Animal Crossing (twice).

I like how it pulses at resting human breathing rate. That is, of course, not a coincidence.

I actually have a really really old toshiba laptop (I think it's from 1997) which has almost exactly the same LED snore as those macs.
