A friend of mine is a journo in AZ. He sent me these pics a few months back.

I wouldn't normally fall for a food place that has pretty girls, but I'm like totally partial to nurses.

I'd like a small burger from there, and probably the nurse second from the right where they are all lined up. Although the rest would I'm sure be fine.

I think the thing I most like about JohnCoffey is how his name makes me think of a US Senator for some reason. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I give yew the honorable Senator Mr John Coffey...!"

John Coffey assumes the stage in huge Texan rally like that one in The Right Stuff.

I'm more and more looking forward to my America trip. So much so I can almost see through time. By the way, does anyone know about Cirrus cards in the US? My RBS debit card is a Cirrrus card, and I can use it with their ATM's, apparently. I hear there's a charge of about two dollars or something in doing so, but it'd be handy to use instead of traveller's cheques. Also, it does Maestro, could I use it as Chip & Pin over there? Anyone know or have experience? I used exclusively pre-exchanged dollars and traveller's cheques and it was a bit of a pain last time.

I remember on my flight to America last time, I got chatting with an old couple on the flight. They were very charming and we had a good chin-wag for at least an hour. Their grandson was with them too, and he looked just like one of those lantern jawed heroes destinied for the marines. He also was impeccably polite. They didn't know the geography of Europe at all, despite visiting London and Paris, but I said it don't signify, and told 'em how I had little clue as to the layout as regards cities in their vast continent. "I guess you either know one or the other." This pleased them.

More pointless nostalgic tales to come!

As for the burgers, bleh. Their definition of what constitutes "fresh cheddar cheese" is also somewhat curious. "Fresh from a pack of cheese slices", perhaps.

I quite like ultra-processed plastic cheese slices on burgers. I was shouted down for this opinion at the Cardiff meet, but it's still true. I wouldn't eat it under any other circumstances though.

That's Mastercard debit and it should work in most ATMs anywhere. I doubt you'll get far with chip-and-pin though, as they don't really do it over there. Be prepared to sign on a vast touch-screen thing instead.

Crap cheese on burgers is fine, but trying to pass it off as "fresh cheddar cheese" is like trying to claim those heart-attack burgers are good for your health.

Quite - try putting a slab of real cheddar on a burger and it just makes you feel ill.

That's what I said! You can't put strong cheddar, say, on a burger because it's overwhelming. Emmanthal can work, or pizza-style mozzarella (which bears no resemblence I can see to real mozzarella, but there you go).

Speaking of which, the investor information PDF on the Heart Attack Grill website can be found here and is most interesting. It makes the point that the firm gets mentioned on American TV in the "look at how bad our nation's obesity problem is" pretty often, and as far as they are concerned this is just free advertising. Also, they let anyone over 350 pounds in weight eat free. I think the guys running this outfit are very, very clever indeed.

In small quantities, it's far nicer. You'd be right if you put a slice or chunks on, but if you just crumble a wee bit on so it'll melt into a tiny thing layer, yum.

That kitchen with the flames looks a tad grimy tbh. It's not exactly up to 'front of house' standard. Not hazardously grotty by any means, but still.

it's called the HEART ATTACK GRILL. The waitresses are dressed as NURSES. If they were on the front of the American Journal of Medicine with the tagline "Greatest threat to our nation" they would class that as mission accomplished I reckon

It's the strength of the taste, for me - I just don't find it suits a burger - because I'm primarily there to taste the burger, not the cheese. I love real cheeses, of all varieties bar none, I just don't think their place is on a burger.

They probably feed people over 350 pounds for free in the hope that someone will actually have a heart attack on the premises. "Obese man eats himself to death at local burger bar" is probably their dream headline.

Not always. A pub near here does hand-formed patties from Aberdeen Angus[1] beef on really nice fresh-baked rolls. The cuts of beef still won't be the best, but then you need to use fatty cuts to keep a burger succulent anyway. The fact they are hand-made on the premises precludes them putting too much real crap in the burgers unless they have some serious industrial mincing machines tucked away in the kitchen.

Anyway, they taste great.

[1] I know this is a semi-con.

That sounds about right. Most cards carry a charge out there. For example, I banked with Wachovia when I was in NJ, DE and MD. They charge $1.50 if you use someone else's ATM. I also had an account with Commerce, who don't charge (Well, they pay it for you) but other parts of commerce suck.

National City bank in Ohio do it too, it's kinda like a smallish bank that's only found in Ohio. Be careful of hidden charges out there, it's like a minefield man.

Americans are mad into common manners. So much so that it's really easy to strike up a conversation with people you've never met before and be pals by the time the convo is done, knowing all about their past. They don't hide very much either, most of it is on display anyway (big cars etc..)

Just be careful of the women. Like Eddie Murphy once said, American women are loyal and loving, but also very calculated and spiteful.

Hayuff. They take hayuff your shit. My ex wife took all my shit.

As a side note, also read the ATM machines you use very carefully in the USA. Some are subject to an *additional* charge, from 50c to $5. ($5 usually being in the casinos).

The spoiler tags hide it on the page, but the image itself is still downloaded by the browser which means that the user could get in trouble if a work firewall intercepts the download and marks it as porn.

It's not that. The way the spoiler tag works in phpbb means the image is always downloaded, even if the viewer doesn't click the spoiler-reveal button. You can tell that by the fact the image appears instantly when you do click the reveal button -- there is no pause while it downloads. This means it can still be flagged by censoring software as an attempt to visit an unauthorised site, and can still be stored in browser caching etc.

Ooohh I see. Silly me for not thinking about that :(

If anyone is in bother with their boss tell them I'm stupid and blame it all on me :)

Or you could just read the bit I put in the rules:

I wrote:
Any images, videos or articles which you (or others) may deem to be NSFW, must be posted as a link offsite with a clear warning. Please do not use the spoiler tag, as even if you do not open them your browser may store it in its cache. Many of our members post during office hours, so this must be followed or you could be landing people in hot water with their boss!
