I remember trying Phantom Dust a while back.
When I first started it, there was a HUGE amount of inane character dialogue you had to go through before getting to play (and I DO mean HUGE AMOUNT).
After the first few sentences I discovered you could skip quickly to the next sentence by pressing a button.
It still took a long, long time before I actually got to the gameplay.
Unfortunately, at this point, I didn't have a clue what I was doing, probably because I had skipped all of the text...
I absolutely couldn't be arsed starting again and reading it all properly so I gave up, sold in on Ebay, and played a more instantly gratifying game instead...
Hope that's helpful !

Your fax are indeed tru.
However, I have persevered and discovered the game. The tutorial lasts from Chapter 1 to Chapter 3 out of 7. Until that point you have no character customisation and have to blast magic randomly. (Still nifty though.)
The plot's a daft mess, and getting from mission to mission (ie. finding the person who begins the briefing) is a pain in the arse.
However, jumping off a broken highway, firing a big fireball, seeing the enemy reflect the fireball, making it accidentally hit a pillar to their right, causing the section of road above where they're standing to fall down and crush them never gets old.
