People should not vote for themselves by a gentlemans agreement. Otherwise I don't think there is a way of preventing self voting. Just IMO.

If enough people can be arsed to vote, self-voting shouldn't be much of a factor.

True. I just don't think it's a very gentlemanly thing to do. In fact only cads and bounders would practice such things.

Voted. Essentially I picked the five who appear to be consistently best at spelling/grammar.

*tucks brown envelope into jacket*

What? Um, no - it's my shopping list. Er, yeah, shopping list. That's it.

Oh, that means I'm fucked.

Better give some kind of election pitch.

Erm, vote for me. I promise everything but will be quite vague on delivering it. I have a clear policy of banning Michael Winner from ever posting in this forum and there will be regular public floggings of Amiga fanboys every 3rd Wednesday.

I also promise,if elected, to:

1. Serve the public trust
2. Protect the innocent
3. Uphold the law
4. (Classified)

Well if we're doing that, I've admined large forums before, don't tend to get overreacty and sweary and I think it's fair to say I'm unlikely to worry about being unpopular should some mod thing need to be done. I also have access from work.

That said, don't see this place being a major problem.

Ditto.

Although I suggest his opponents cross-examine him to see if he's ever been banned from any forums. Because that kind of thing just won't do. ;)

I see we currently have 106 votes. That means at least one person didn't vote for five people. In fact, it suggests that someone voted for only one. Which is fair enough but... tch.

It was Chinny throwing us off the scent with his 'Gentlemanly Conduct' post, while he sneakily only chose himself.

Well, that's what Dudley said in his pm when he was trying to sway my votes.

Surely it simply means I've seen a Rev Stu before?

In that case it wasn't an attempt to charge for a free forum while calling your entire board parasites for freeloading off a board you don't provide. It was actually granturismo.com (back when that was a private site) where the owner decided he didn't want any games players anymore, just "hardcore track day people" and closed the off topic area, which caused chaos.

Otherwise it unfolded much the same, censoring and banning of urls to other sites, deleting of any posts by dissenting voices and eventually, the total collapse of the site, which he sold to some company for pennies, who then immediately sold it on to Sony for thousands.

I fear for the world if people are struggling to see that 27 is a higher number than 25...

It's not that. Basically there are 5 places, and the numbers do jiggle around a fair bit. So would be nice to see who has the top 5 positions at a glance instead of having to count every single time.

Is five moderators enough?

[edit]I guess the five 'voted' mods can always recruit the next one in the list if they are not.

I think 5 mods is enough, unless 5th place is tied or something. How much work is involved in modding a forum as small as this anyway? Granted the place might grow once the main site is launched but I think 5 mods is more than generous for a couple of hundred members.

Five is the magic number. In anycase, we all cast 5 votes.

It took me four and a half hours to read everything new when I came back from the countryside last night. I only changed a few things (fixed some broken BB Code, moved some sticky topics about), but stuff still needs reading.

I did start a thread asking about the number of moderators (which it occurs to me you might already know...), which was much like pulling teeth. The consensus was to just start it immediately so everyone can see how popular they are.

True, although with 5 people on board nobody should feel obliged to read everything.

If we have an "alert a mod" button on each post then that means that the forum users can alert the mods to any problems before they might see them. This works well on other forums.

So if we add a button (if there isn't already one) it should make the job one hell of alot easier. Nobody with any kind of life could be expected to keep fully up to speed with the board 24 hours a day. The person who ran the other place never did.

So small I didn't even notice.

Needs to be bigger like on WoS. No bugger is going to see that or even realise what it's for.

I appear to be demanding much lately, which isn't the intention. Grim.. has worked his arse off to get this place running and I appear to be moaning at everything. :'(

You fuck ;)

This is the second comment I've had about the 'report' button - the first one was to make it smaller / get rid of it, obv :)
