Other members are noted as construction managers, receptionists, district nurses, lay preachers, police officers, company directors and teachers among many others

While I'm not a member of the BNP (you can check if you like, LOLZ etc.) I generally support their right to exist as a political party. Even if they're a bunch of fucknuts, we're supposed to live in a society where you can be a fucknut and have that view represented by a political party.

As such I find the various institutions that have either banned the BNP from operating or otherwise disallow membership of the same are fundamentally opposed to the democratic principle they purport to hold so dear.

Well, quite.

It's useful as a means to know who the bigots are though, much in the same way that you can get a HANDY NORTH AMERICAN PAEDO LIST from checking out NAMBLA memberships. Much more efficient than a sex offenders register.

is what I was saying to the missus yesterday when passing by their demonstration in Brum. At least we could walk past them and go "tut, what a bunch of arseholes" instead of that viewpoint being driven underground and gaining support that way.

Yes, the BNP should definitely be allowed to exist as a political party. It'd be crude to say that everyone who is a member of the BNP are "racist pricks".

Either way, something doesn't sit right with me here, and I'm feeling uncomfortable with it.

There was a anti-fascist demo near my office a while back, when that ballerina was outed as a member ( she was appearing at a nearby theatre ). I was tempted to go down and stand outside with a placard saying "Freedome of speech for all!" and see which side got annoyed at me. Calling for the banning of a political party opposed to your views is a fairly fascist thing to do in my book.

It's also not illegal to hold racist views, of course. It's illegal to try and get other people to be racist or to use someone's race as a reason not to employ them, or to racially abuse someone.

If you've gone to the lengths of spending money on a political party affiiliation that is proud to be biased against racial minorities, why should you be allowed to serve in the police, where you will be required to uphold written police standards of racial equality? The two positions are fundamentally at odds.

Well, yes. Of late they have been downplaying their more extreme beliefs in an attempt to pick up more voters. But read the comments thread on the blog I linked to earlier and the hardline beliefs of their party faithful are all there.

Yes, he does. Still, i wanted to see how many were in Brent compared to Lancaster, only because it is something I have always wondered.

Brent is a community of literally hundreds of different cultures and languages, colours and religions, not that many white people, but how do people get along? Lancaster is mostly white and a much smaller community by size but has far more BNPO members than there are in Brent. Actualy, this has, strangely, made me feel a lot better about the local area in Brent.
