Not worth watching. Plot only minimally takes elements from the game (same character names mostly), but the plot isn't anywhere near as good as the game, is far less involving and even when explained doesn't make too much sense. Generally quite unsatisfying with an apallingly dull ending, in my opinion.

Still, it reminded me the original games were pretty decent so I'm on the hunt for them again.

I have the first one on pc if you want it. I'd keep it, as it's great, but I can't even remember the last time I played it.

I bought the first one new for £30, played it, completed it, then sold it on for £20 to lacesensor. I did that happily in the knowledge I'd probably not play it again, but that was yeeeears ago.

Aye. I bought them when it cost me about £9. Well worth it though, I still play them through. And I don't need to remember the discs if I go somewhere with a lesser computer than mine, as that's when I would mainly play them.

Thanks dude. Generous and appreciated offer, but hang fire, after a bit more thought I'm likely to reach into my pocket and buy them on steam. I've been distracted in the meantime by this Left 4 Dead demo I've just spotted on there :)

Worse than the dream sequences in the first, in which you run down an impossible to see path of blood with an drop to your death on either side, while a baby wails constantly in the background?

I turned the game off at that point, and never played it again.

Impossible to see apart from, y'know, that trail of red.

Also atmospheric as fuck, don't play it late at night in the dark.

Yes, but it's tiny, narrow, and extremely hard to see. And one wrong step, and you fall to your death and have to start the whole thing again.

While a fucking baby yowls in your ear.

And even though it's a dream and therefore not real, you still have to finish it.

Sorry, but no.

And the jumping, rather than just walking.

I haven't even played it. Just seen someone else failing repeatedly and howling with despair at that moment of the game.

On a similar note, we watched Hitman: The Movie this weekend.

It has no plot. It just has things that happen one after another. And intentionally or otherwise, they really beat you over the head with the underlying lunacy of The World's Most Conspicuous-Looking Assassin.

I liked Max Payne the PC game, it had atmosphere in a fun comic book like way. It was over pretty quick too which was a bonus. Didn't find the dream sequences as annoying as people had said at the time but they were a bit boring.

Hitman was a terrible terrible film. Now if they'd had the sense to have Jason Statham as Agent 47 then it would have been a much better film I'm sure*.

*If they had completely re-written the entire thing of course

Hitman games = Great
Timothy Olyphant in Deadwood = Great

Hitman movie = Rubbish
Timothy Olyphant in Hitman movie = Rubbish

It's very poor indeed.

Max Payne > Hitman.

Max Payne was rubbish but it was at least twice as good as the Hitman film. It looked pretty occasionally. That's about it though.

I was faintly amused on the couple of occasions in the film that they used bullet time, but still, yawn.

No, however:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
In the game Max Payne is given the drug that features in the film by someone else, and it has the same name (Valkyr) but unlike the film it doesn't convey any special powers or otherwise, its just a standard 'get high' drug which makes the whole thing a bit.... meh

Closely mirrors the first Hitman game, then.

Yeah, but in the games, the things that happen aren't embarassingly stupid and bombastic. Plotless and fun would have been fine, but the film was plotless and dire.

I still really like the Max Payne games. The Xbox ones are both compatible with the 360, too.
