My dad's pc keeps giving an ÿour computer is in danger picture", even though i ran all virus/ windows defender/ adaware stuff on it,

what's the easy way to clean it./. put xp on it another time? (and do i have to reinstall this wireless settings then?)

registry cleaner?

(as a mac user i'm not that experienced with that kind of thing)

Hmm, that sounds bad.
Have you tried putting the exact wording from the picture into a search engine to find out what you're dealing with?

My dad is particularly obsessed with spyware/anti virus programs so he might be able to offer some suggestion. I'll ask him. Also threatfire is supposed to be pretty good.

Download Process Explorer from the MS site. It has a handy little 'what's this process' button. Drag that onto the window displaying the message and it'll tell you what process is causing it. Reboot in safe mode and get rid of every copy of that file, every unexpected entry in run/runOnce etc.

A Squared Free
Malwarebytes Antimalware.

Both are free as on demand scanners and are very effective in my experience.

ah... sounds like the antivirus XP thing. it tricks you into downloading it and then changes your wallpaper.

a pig to get rid of IIRC.

Yep, because it has a randomly named dll (changes name every time you boot, I think) that also loads itself as an explorer shell dependency to prevent you shutting it down or deleting it. It's bloody clever, to be honest. I had it a while back and thoroughly enjoyed clashing heads with it.

I had this bitch about 6 months ago; unfortunately I gave up in the end and just reformatted.

Sorry its not much of a solution, but I usually find its the best and most effective way of cleaning a system.

Use the builtin tools available when you boot from the XP CD to do the formatting - you can't format from within Windows.

If I was still a mod the title would be changed to 'clean my dads cock,,'

Yeah as Craster says, the XP (and indeed 2000, Vista and every linux I've ever installed) CD will offer you a way to do that.

If you have multiple drives for fucks sake get the right one. :)

May be an idea to ensure you have your network drivers on a disk so that once you've started afresh you can connect to the internet and download any other drivers you may need.

Recently a mate of mine who bought a 2nd pc needed to reformat but low and behold the "driver disk" which was a home-made job didn't actually have the right drivers for his network device on and since he didnt have a wireless connection either it proved to be a right pain in the arse to sort out. Ended up carrying his pc around mine to connect it to the wireless using my usb dongle.

Use DriverMax to save all the drivers currently on your PC to a CD: http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/
