Was suprised to see no topic yet for this....I am disappointed.... Is anyone getting it on pre-order? I wanna try out the horde mode when it comes out, just been watching all the trailers could find for it and it looks better than the old one if that is even possible. like the idea of the gold plated Lancer, shame it extra £10 for not a lot more!

That's alright. For completeness, here's the first thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1861

Anyway - I am most looking forward to it. I enjoyed the first one a lot.

I'm going to start a Gears of War 3 thread now, just so I can say, "ha!" in two years' time.

EG give it 9/10

Says the game is better all round, better story, better coop, better multiplayer

All around me are familiar Bezzies
Worn out Cardies, Worn out Fezzes
Bright and early for the daily whoring
Going nowhere, Going nowhere
Their beers are filling up their glasses
No expression, No expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, No tomorrow...

Annoyingly, my review copy still isn't here, but I'm promised it'll be waiting for me at home today. It better be, or, or, er, I'll send them another email asking where it is again.

Gutted there's no 4 player co-op, but still should be a winner.

Thats kaka, best thing about Halo 3 was the 4 player super-cooping

Fucking cunting cunts.

Why don't they just tell me they haven't bothered to send a game yet instead of bare-faced lying to me EVERY DAY?

They said it would come on Saturday, it didn't. They said it would DEFINITELY come on Monday, then. It didn't. They said it would ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY COME NO LATER THAN TODAY. It fucking didn't.

Why don't they just say: "Actually, I haven't posted it yet because I can't be arsed and you're not important. I'll let you know when I've bothered posting it". That would be much easier than just blatantly lying about it. God, now I know what this PR cunts thing is all about on Ram Raider's blog.

If I can Persuade-A-Dave to buy this (he's resisting on Too Human, didn't have the nerve to suggest Saints Row 2), I may pick it up from Sainsbury's next week.

Not so much resisting Too Human, as not checked on current prices. Saints Row 2, I seem to remember also saying I could be interested in. Certainly interested in GoW2 fun if you buy it.

Judging by what Myp said, quite glad I avoided Kane and Lynch though :)

There's more colour for a start and to me it looks like a shed load of effects have been put in such as depth of field etc. The script is more fun, and it feels a little faster - weapons fire faster, seem more responsive, character feels slightly lighter on it's feet and the actual battles I've done have been better staged and more frenetic. And that's just the first level before you get to the start credits! Mind you, I thought the first one was fab, particularly on the harder difficulty settings so bear that in mind :D

This. I'm playing it with a chum who bought it excitedly. I was apprehensive, as I thought the first one came up with some novel gimmicks, but was often horrible to play. However, it seems they've improved everything that bothered me about the first one - the guns are more effective, and none of them appear useless (except the uzi thing - way too slow). The AI is a bit better, and your mates help you up more reliably (and the monsters help each other up as well, which makes me feel kind of bad for killing them sometimes). You no longer need to pump three hundred rounds into every two-bit villain in sight (a Good Thing), but to compensate for this, there are generally lots more enemies about (a Good Thing).

There are fewer irritating small things, melee attacks are far more reliable (the chaingun is now well worth considering for something other than novelty value), the levels are a bit more interesting (one in particular is pretty impressive), the controls and cover more responsive and reliable, and it looks better, too - it still leans towards the grey, but it's not all dark anymore, and there are muted greens, blues and oranges aplenty. The plot's easier to follow too (nitpick, though - I wish they'd got rid of that thing where you put a finger to your ear and slow to a crawl whenever you get a radio message. They happen a lot more frequently now, and always when you want to be moving to the next fight).

So far, after several hours' play, I'm having fun, and it's barely annoying me at all (although it did mysteriously divest me of one of my guns on two occasions, mid-gunfight, which annoyed me quite a lot). It's a marked improvement over the first. Hovering around the 7-8/10 mark, waiting to see what the single player is like first. I wouldn't bother buying it now though if it were my money - I'd wait for a proper budget release.

I think that's a bit harsh. It's much better than that bastard RAAM.

I wouldn't really call it a boss, to be honest, more like the end of the final sequence, a sequence that made me grin all over my face.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Where you steal a fucking Brumak, and rain down righteous butt-kicking from hell on the Locust

My impressions:

Good:
-No fucking Kryll. There is a sequence that is similar in concept, but it works so much better, as the areas which cause death are much easier to see.
-As others have said, the controls seem much tighter, and movement is a little easier
-Some funky new weapons, like the Mulcher, a portable turret that spews hot lead at amazing rates.
-Some excellent set pieces, including one that feels like a cross between Panzer Dragoon, Omega Boost, and the Endor speederbike sequence from Return of the Jedi.
-Much much better story.

Bad: -It's obviously the middle game of a trilogy, and sets up questions without answering them.
-Occasionally the AI Dom forgets about coming to save you when you're down. Which is a little frustrating.

Generally much better than the original (so far, at least), but that bomb section was rubbish.

Seems generally much easier though.

It does aye, I'm playing it on hardcore and there's not been any really tough bits.
Doms IQ/AI has improved over last time (he actually kills things now) but he's still a belming retard.
My only real complaint about the game is it regularly has fecking checkpoints just before cutscenes.
That's a minor detail though, because apparently I've been playing through it with a big silly grin on my face :DD

That carry the bomb section was right cack. Only 180 degrees of aim? FUCK OFF. 12 attempts for me and Dave to get through that.

You can't aim behind you, which isn't helped if the wretches can get behind you in about 2 seconds afterrestarting from the checkpoint. And it takes you 3 or 4 seconds to get your back to the wall.

The bit that killed me the most (so far) was in the tunnel up that mountain when

your tank gets borked and the 3 corpsers kill you within seconds until you figure out what order to shoot them in

That bomb bit was lame. we aced it first time, but it was irritating - we semed to be walking at different speds, and kept hitting walls. It's pretty daft to demand that, seeing as anyone with an iota of sense would just drop the case whenever something attacked, then pick it up again when all was clear.

Also, I didn't realise there was any order necessary with the corpsers. I just shot them all casual like until they died. Maybe I flukily hit the right order.

It does seem easier, I admit. However, it's less infuriatingly unfair and unreliable than the first. I might even try it on insane once we're done, which I would never bother doing with the first, simply because shooting every enemy six thousand times before they even notice you're there would drive me to another couple of murders.
