Anyone know of a company that does dedicated servers on the cheap? Preferably UK based but it's probably going to have to be US.

They absolutely have to be OK with the server being used to send out bulk e-mails to subscribed users (all legal and above board, not spam).

Have we not had a cheap dedicated server RMD before?
If all you want to do is send emails, I'd use MailChimp. If not, erm, 1&1 are cheap, I think?

MailChimp would be alright but I've written my own e-mail marketing system and we've marketed that to clients, the server it's on at the moment can't cope with the e-mail load so I'm looking for alternatives.

Well, I use Rackspace (managed hosting of two servers for £1,600 a month) and 1&1 (dedicated non-managed (although they will press the reset button if you ask them nicely)) for about £70 a month.

My friend's Support Manager at CWCS and I know he runs a tight ship as he was my manager at HostEurope/PIPEX, but I don't know how cheap you want. Do you need a real dedicated server, or would a virtual share be enough?

A virtual share might be enough, but that rests on finding a provider that doesn't mind thousands of e-mails being sent out, often in short periods of time.

How does the starter level of these sound, then?

I don't think a VS would be suitable. They'd either get stroppy that every now and then you'd suddenly take up all the CPU time, or throttle you so you couldn't.

As I've said before, I use Poundhost hosting a very nice server for £116/month, and includes cpanel.

In that case this looks good value for £99.99pm.
